The district agricultural authorities will be happy to achieve a wheat yield of 67,321 tons in winter.
According to official sources, farmers have cultivated wheat on 37,761 hectares across Haripur District, including 32,631 hectares of non-cultivable land. The authorities have estimated a total yield of 15,545 tons from cultivable land and 51.776 tons from non-cultivable land from the two sub-divisions of the district, an official said.
Last year 37,564 hectares of land was cultivated with a total output of 66,864 tons. This time around, there has been a slight upward trend in cultivation, owing to farmers’ inclination towards wheat growth, the official said.
District Agriculture Officer Zulfiqar Ahmed confirmed the target figure and said the weather is expected to be favourable for achieving the target output. Haripur has a total of 32,789 hectares of cultivable area, 52,282 hectares of non-cultivable land and 1,292 hectares of orchards.
Sources in the food department said that the monthly demand for the one million population of Haripur is between 8,000 and 10,000 tons, while the department is currently receiving 3,000 to 4,000 tons by the Federal Food Committee.
