MULTAN:

Jeevay Pakistan Jeevay Muqami Hakoomat (JPJMH) leader Daniyal Aziz pledged to launch a decisive struggle against inflation and unemployment after Muharram.

Addressing a rally on Wednesday, Aziz said that the people sitting in the parliament were not sympathetic to the miseries of the common man. “The fact that inflation is killing people is not a coincidence. This is part of a deliberate policy of the government and it amounts to a tax on the poor while billionaires heading political parties benefit from throwaway interest rates,” he said. Daniyal Aziz said that the local government was a vehicle for development and progress around the world but in Pakistan the bureaucracy had failed the nation for 60 years.

Aziz said that local government funds were being illegally utilised by the provincial governments and local government polls were intentionally delayed. “This is a sheer violation of Article 140A of the Constitution. He pointed out that local council associations had filed 27 cases in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and High Courts for the restoration of local governments and against the appointment of administrators in place of nazims but there had been no response from the government.

He said that the Police Order 2002 had been suspended due to which Public Safety Commissions were no longer functional and people at local level were facing severe  human rights violations.

“The rights of women, minorities and laborers have been usurped by delaying the local government polls,” he said.
