LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday instructed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Assistant Director Munawar Iqbal Ranjha to locate two missing Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) officials by tracking their mobile phones.

Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu was hearing a habeus corpus petition alleging that the assistant director was holding the two sub divisional officers in illegal detention.

Ranjha’s lawyer told the court that Zulfiqar Ali and Muhammad Iqbal were still using their official and personal phones.

He said this showed that they were not being held captive, but had gone into hiding so that the assistant director could be framed.

Justice Sidhu then asked Ranjha to provide the phone data to the police so they could find the SDOs, or to find them himself.

He then adjourned the hearing for a day.

Talking to reporters, Ranjha said that the FIA had registered an FIR against both SDOs for selling a stolen transformer for Rs1.3 million to Asif Bajwa Flour Mills on Zafarwal Road.

They had also installed five electricity poles without approval, he said.

He said when the two were informed about the FIR and invited to join the investigation, they went into hiding and cooked up a kidnapping case.
