Medical Negligence: Lawyers demand reinstatement of murder case

LAHORE:

Members of the Ferozewala Bar staged a protest at the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Monday to condemn the quashing of a murder case against five doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital after a young lawyer in their care died.

The protesters, led by Ferozewala Bar president Chaudhry Bashir Ahmad Warraich, carried banners demanding that the case be reinstated. Addressing the protesters, Warriach said that the lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Ranjha, had died due to medical negligence. He said a murder case was registered against the doctors at Muslim Town police station but it was later quashed. He added: “When lawyers cannot get justice themselves, how can they get it for their clients?”

He demanded that the chief justice of Pakistan and chief justice of the Lahore High Court take notice of the incident. He said they would continue protesting till the doctors were given “exemplary punishment”.
