In favour of the porn ban

Letter November 21, 2011
I believe that, for the first time, the PTA is on the right track in protecting our youth

KARACHI: I was quite shocked to read three letters in your issue of November 18 all opposing a move by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block pornographic websites in Pakistan

I believe that, for the first time, the PTA is on the right track in protecting our youth from the devastating impact of exposure to sexually explicit content. It is well known that exposure to pornography can become addictive and can lead to prevalence of sexual perversion as well as corruption of moral values in society.

Already, our electronic media is being extremely irresponsible by showing prime-time dramas containing scenes of smoking & drinking and promoting themes such as sexual liberation & extramarital relationships. The greatest strength of any nation is the moral fabric of its middle class.

And finally, the first country in the world to block porn on the web was not a Middle Eastern Islamic country, but Singapore, a free society, which had a government sensible enough to understand its negative impact.
