Roundtable talk: Bringing FATA into media legal framework
A roundtable talk will be held in Peshawar on Tuesday to address the question of whether political reforms in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) can succeed without media reforms in the region, said a press release issued by Intermedia Pakistan on Sunday.
The conference will discuss bringing Fata into Pakistani media’s legal framework and present a comparative analysis on the state of media affairs and information access in Pakistan and the tribal areas. Aside from exploring legal perspectives on why citizens in Fata fare poorly in indicators of freedom of expression and access to information, the roundtable will also explore how media reforms can be part of the political process in Fata
Intermedia Pakistan is conducting a series of roundtable conferences with the citizens of FATA, along with representatives and notables from the region, relevant government functionaries, political parties, civil society, media, regulators and parliamentarians. The outcome of the conflict in Fata has been a greater media spotlight on the region, highlighting the denial of several rights to locals in a practical context.
