Kamran Yousaf, The Express Tribune senior reporter in Islamabad, says there might be a possibility that Ambassador Haqqani may not even land in Islamabad to face the tough questions concerning the memo.
Yousaf says talks of who will replace Haqqani are abound in the power corridors of the capital. He is in charge of, what is considered to be, one of the most fragile and important diplomatic relations for Pakistan. Yousaf claims foreign secretary Salman Bashir's name is often thrown in the mix in speculative discussions.
Haqqani has offered to resign, but according to Yousaf since the ambassador has been privy to sensitive information regarding secret talks between the two governments, his possible removal will have to be handled carefully.

Acceptance or rejection of Haqqni's resignation would not be enough to close this most controversial chapter in Pakistan's history.
Judicial and/or media trial of Hussain Haqqani and Ijaz Mansoor must be conducted to take the issue to its logical end. Inquiry (if) to be done by other than judges and media would remain doubtful.
There really is no comparison between these two, as the later is full of himself and opportunist , while Haqqani has a grasp and knowledge, including contacts in the inner corriders of Washington !!
I have few questions regarding this topi drama of Memo? 1st, where is the proof that the memo originated from Hussain Haqqani or any of Zardari;’s people. Could it not be a false flag operation? 2nd, If it was really Zardari who had done it and Ijaz was representing Zardari, what was the need for him to write an article about this in Financial Times. 3rd, Didn’t Mullen say Kayani was his great friend? Why would Zardari send a memo to Mullen – why not to some civilian authority? If people believe that Zardari’s team actually wrote this memo, then they must also believe the last paragraph of the memo where it clearly states that government has enough evidence of the guilt of people of Pakistani origin people outside government and also within ISI in the Mumbai 2008 terror attacks and it would make these people accountable. The other option is that while this memo exists, it was not written by Zardari or his people but simply includes indirectly accuses elected officials of hot buttons like co-operating with India and Afghanistan. By doing that alongside the promise of independent inquiry, the military (if it is behind this whole drama) is trying to discredit any outcomes of the independent inquiry by showing the inquiry to be a conspiracy against the army.
Any trained career diplomat would do. They are trained and accountable to Foreign Office. They would never do anything so adventurous.
No political weasels and adventurous generals, please.
Vienna,November 19,2011 Salman Bashir, yes he can draft a better memo.UNTRACEABLE, backwards.I can also draft a clever memo. But I would select the paper for memo.1971 is patented harm, h silent me code.So are the words re-setting and re-tasking. Time & space are relevant. Pakistan is in the process of re-inventing itself or is it re-birth under compulsion? An investigation is called for. Salman Bashir is a good choice for the coveted post of Ambassador in Washington DC. Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao is already there. It will be easy for them to discuss diplomacy without crossing Indo-Pak border.
Is this News or Conjecture?
husain haqani is parsing his words. "meinay lihka nahi." that's true he didnt write it, he asked mansoor ijaz to write it. "meinay parha nahi." thats true as well. he told ijaz what to write but intentionally avoided reading the final draft written by ijaz. "meinay ponchaya nahi." thats true as well. ijaz did the delivery not husain haqani; BUT husain haqani asked him to do it.
The cat is now out of the bag.
Hussain Haqqani is not a career diplomat and therefore has made the blunder. Now he has to pay the price for the fault he has made.
Despite being the top diplomat in US, he cannot manipulate and twist the issue in any manner. Here the diplomacy has failed and trust prevail.
