The Ministry of Petroleum had moved a summary to the prime minister containing the names of three candidates out of which one is supposed to get the nod as the new MD Pakistan State Oil.
However sources told Express Tribune that one more candidate had been added to this list which is currently with the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, apparently without the knowledge of Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain. “Now the four candidates are contesting for MD slot in PSO,” sources maintained.
When contacted Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain, he said that Petroleum Ministry had recommended only three names. “I am not aware of the induction of a fourth name on the names recommended for the appointment of MD PSO,” he added.
According to rules and regulations, the prime minister can approve one candidate out of the names recommended by Petroleum Ministry. The prime minister can also reject all the names and direct the Petroleum Ministry to send another summary with more recommendations.
The summary sent by the Petroleum Ministry includes the names of Yahya Ameer, Irfan Khan and Wasi Khan. Eleven candidates had appeared for an interview in response to the government’s ad for the post.
Yahya Ameer had scored highest marks and stood at top of the shortlisted candidates for post of MD PSO. Ameer has wide experience of working in the oil industry and has also worked in Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).
Jehangir Shah is currently holding acting charge of Pakistan State Oil. The government has already appointed new heads of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pak Arab Refinery Limited (Parco) and Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL).
The post of MD Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) was advertised and interviews were held but the interview committee headed by the petroleum minister decided to re-advertise after no suitable candidates were found.

Brother Yasir, In my opinion, you dont need PHD Degrees or experience in project managemnet background for this post. You ONLY need a person with Managerial skills with knowledge of Pakistan's domestic market and mainly internal oil market dynamics. Pakistan imports oil products (POL) worth USD 15 billion plus a year through PSO and the right candidate should have managerial/executive skills and experience in the international oil trading market to ensure our country is not taken for a ride by the international market players. The first three names were sent on Merit and if you ask me, I would place Irfan Khan to be the favourite for this post without a doubt...!! Lets see the final pick as you never know what can happen in Pakistan.!!!!!!
DR. NAZIR AHMED HAWARY has no political backing that's why he is not given a chance.hold a Ph.D. Degree with a strong Finance Management, Engineering, Information Technology and Project Management background with an expertise in the management and execution of various types of projects.
Hmmmmm.......I have been in the oil industry myself for past 20 years as a broker/agent....The only name I am aware of and who is well known in the oil industry is Irfan Khan.. He is a known senior oil trader. He was the head of Trading and marketing for Star Energy, New York, lead trader and Executive in ENOC( Emirates National Oil Company) Dubai, and also lead trader and Managing Director of Chemoil, based out of Dubai.
The name mentioned here, Yahya Ameer does not seem to be correct. There used to be a Kuwait Petroleum Corporation employee and his name was Naeem Yahya Mir.
The fourth candidate......may be from Multan / Presidency.......
