Davis Immunity: CJ asks law officers to assist him

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Sheikh Azmat Saeed, on Thursday, issued notices to law officers of provincial and federal governments for legal assistance in a petition urging the court to summon former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to give evidence in a petition to determine whether Raymond Davis was eligible for diplomatic immunity. The CIA contractor gunned down two Pakistanis in Lahore earlier this year. He was released after paying blood money. The CJ ordered an assistant attorney general and an additional advocate general to assist the court. The judge adjourned the hearing for December 15. Advocate Noshab A Khan had filed the application as part of his already pending petition on whether Davis was entitled to diplomatic immunity. He said Qureshi resigned as foreign minister and claimed that he had refused to bow down to government pressure. The lawyer said that the former minister had said that he refused to give Davis immunity because he was not a diplomat.
