New Facility: Prison for women to be opened in Dadu

KARACHI: A prison for female convicts will be opened in the district of Dadu, said the Sindh law minister, Ayaz Soomro, who has also been made the minister for prisons. The female convicts from Dadu are currently being moved to jails in either Hyderabad or Larkana, but these jails have become overcrowded. Soomro said that plans have also been chalked out to install electronic security devices such as mobile phone jammers and CCTV cameras in the jails to keep a check on the prisoners and prevent them from communicating with the outside world. The salaries and perks of employees at the prison will also be increased to match that of the Motorway Police. Inmates are currently treated by professionals called in from the health department. Soomro said that this practice will be stopped and doctors will be assigned to different jails.
