Dozens of teachers boycotted classes to protest the transfer of their colleagues and against the attitude of the District Coordination Officer (DCO) on Saturday. They told reporters that DCO Azmat Mehmood and the monitoring officer had visited Government High School No 1 on September 22. “The DCO took the attendance register and did not allow teachers to mark their attendance,” they added.
The protesters said that the DCO then transferred four teachers and a clerk to remote areas with immediate effect. Senior staff association, the headmasters association and the Punjab SES association also participated in the protest and announced that if transfers were not revoked, teachers of the district would continue their protest and boycott classes. “So what if a couple of teachers were late? They weren’t absent from duty and that is hardly cause for transferring them to a remote area away from their friends and family,” said Math teacher.
