Butt who was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison with a fine of £30,937, insisted that he was trapped in the spot-fixing saga.

The sentence could be reduced to half the term for good behaviour.

Earlier on Friday, Butt's father Zulfikar Ali Butt said, “If Salman’s involvement is proved and evidence is provided that he took money, I tell the nation that my son Salman and I are ready to be hanged publicly.”
