RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to the defence secretary in a petition filed by a former sepoy on death row in Faisalabad Jail after he was convicted by the Field General Court Marshal. Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi of the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench sought the response of the secretary till November 21 to decide whether the petition of Gulam Nabi was admissible or not. Nabi said he was picked up in November 2009 by intelligence agencies and was tried by a military court. He stated that he had been awarded death sentence after an unfair trial, in which he was not informed about his crime and was not allowed to have a lawyer of his own choice. The petitioner urged the court to stop the execution till his petition is decided.
