SIALKOT: Jubilant Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) employees distributed sweets among each other in offices across the Sialkot region after the government announced its decision to halt notifications pertaining to dissolving Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco). The government had stalled its decision to privatise power distribution companies. Several Gepco employees were seen performing bhangra to a drum beat in the streets. Later, addressing an important meeting of Gepco employees, Gepco divisional union president Rao Iftikhar Ahmed termed the privatisation of the power distribution companies as an economic assassination of Gepco workers and commended the government for reconsidering its decision. “The government is finally thinking for the people,” the protesters said.
