Vice Admiral Abbas Raza has taken charge as Commander Karachi, said a press release on Tuesday. In this capacity, he would be in charge of all Pakistan Navy units and establishments ashore at Karachi. Vice Admiral Abbas Raza was commissioned to the Pakistan Navy in 1975. He has served at command and staff appointments, including deputy commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy, commanding officer of Frigate class ships, commander auxiliary and mine warfare squadron, principal secretary to the chief of naval staff, naval attache in France, director-general of joint warfare and training, director-general of the Joint Staff Headquarters and the deputy chief of naval staff (operations). Before taking over as Karachi commander, he was the commander of the Pakistan Fleet. Admiral Abbas has specialised in naval communications. He did his staff course from the Royal Navy Staff College, Greenwich, UK. He is a graduate of the National Defence Course from the National Defence University in Islamabad and has been decorated with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military). press release
