Squash: Atlas, Mehboob ousted in Rotterdam

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Aamir Atlas and Farhan Mehboob crashed out of the World Open squash championship after losses to Egyptian opponents in Rotterdam. Unseeded Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad only took half an hour to bring down Pakistan number one Aamir Atlas 10-12, 9-11, 5-11 in the first-round match. “I am struggling with consistency and that is my weak point,” said Atlas. “The Egyptians are ruling the world of squash here and all I wanted was to regain the same glory for Pakistan.” Meanwhile, Mehboob faced qualifier Marwan El Shorbagy, who easily secured the opening two sets 11-6, 11-8 before the Pakistani withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
