KARACHI:

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq has termed Pakistan’s triumph at the Hong Kong Sixes tournament a result of hard work of all the team members as they returned to Karachi yesterday.

Pakistan won a one-sided final to lift the trophy for the fifth time, equalling England’s record of most triumphs at the Hong Kong tournament.

“The win was a result of the hard work the team put in,” Razzaq told reporters on his return. “It was tough cricket but we played as a unit and that resulted in the victory.”

However, the all-rounder, who was named man of the final, expressed disappointment on Pakistan’s loss to Hong Kong earlier in the event.

“The team was dejected after the shock defeat. We underestimated them but made a strong comeback in the semi-final against them.”

Razzaq also felt that Pakistan should always send a strong team to the event, which this time featured international players Umar Akmal and Sohail Tanvir besides upcoming talent Hammad Azam. Akmal was pleased with his performance after being named player of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board hosted a reception in honour of the victorious team while a Rs200,000 reward was also announced for each team member with an added bonus of Rs100,000 for Akmal.
