Quaid Trophy: Tanvir, Atif help Karachi stage recovery

Bowlers claim five wickets apiece against HBL in Quaid Trophy.

Tanvir Ahmed and Atif Maqbool helped Karachi Blues stage a fightback on the second day as they dismissed HBL for 376 before reaching 220 for five in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, according to information provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board.


HBL, who resumed on 329 for four, could only add 47 to their total with Ahmed and Maqbool chipping in with five-wicket hauls. In reply, Asif Zakir hit 63 to help Blues post a strong reply, despite Danish Kaneria claiming three for 85.

Saeed’s ton put Rawalpindi ahead

Usman Saeed’s unbeaten century led Rawalpindi’s reply in the second-innings as the hosts managed 223 for eight against Wapda to gain an overall lead of 237.

Saeed hit 16 fours in his 148-ball knock and Tahir Rauf managed 36 as Rawalpindi, bundled out for a paltry 159 in the first-innings, looked to set a competitive total. Earlier, Mohammad Ayaz claimed a five-for to help Rawalpindi dismiss Wapda for 173.

Shoaib, Iqbal demolish Abbottabad

Shoaib Khan was unbeaten on 130 after Fahad Iqbal scored 97 as PIA were batting Abbottabad out of the game, reaching 408 for eight in reply to the hosts’ total of 175 in the first-innings.

Khan has faced 192 balls in an innings that includes 14 fours and a six, while Iqbal made his way back after a 206-ball knock to help PIA gain a mammoth 233-run lead.

ZTBL on verge of huge win

Islamabad were staring at a massive innings-defeat against ZTBL after being reduced to 98 for four in the second-innings, still trailing by 148 runs at the end of the second day.

Junaid Nadir, who took five for 14 in Islamabad’s first-innings total of 123, claimed two for 42 in the second. Earlier, ZTBL resumed on 212 for three and were bowled out for 369 with Imran Nazir managing a quick 119-ball 108.

In other matches, Mohammad Yasin hit a half-century as Sialkot reached 125 for two after NBP were bowled out for 487, courtesy Kamran Akmal and Qaiser Abbas’ superb tons. Faisalabad were reduced to 90 for three in reply to SBP’s first-innings score of 356.
