It’s been a tough month for us: Swann

KOLKATA: England captain Graeme Swann was a relieved man after his beleaguered side finally registered a win in India, beating the hosts by six wickets in the one-off Twenty20.

The off-spinner admitted that the tour had been a tough one for England, which saw them lose the One-Day International series 5-0.

“It’s been a tough month for us,” he said. “We played some horrible cricket but it came together today.”

Man-of-the-match Kevin Pietersen, who smashed a 39-ball 53 in England’s run chase, believed the pitch was a tricky one.

“It was a tricky pitch,” he said. “It was one of those pitches where you had to take a risk in the first six overs.

“India is a good place to come and play as a batsman, but a lot of us under-performed. But believe me, we tried our hardest.”

India captain MS Dhoni said his team had fallen 15 runs short of a decent total.

“It was the sort of pitch where you would aim for around 150 runs,” said Dhoni. “It was very difficult to score runs.

“It will be good to take the next few days off before we play the West Indies.”

England enhanced their reputation as the reigning world Twenty20 champions by keeping India down to 120 for nine before surpassing the modest target comfortably.
