Convocation: Habib Public School celebrates 180 top students

Nearly Rs250 million has been spent on renovating the school.

The Habib Public School held its first ever convocation to honour 180 higher achievers for their outstanding performance in their Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) and O’ Level examinations.

On Saturday, students were lining up to sit on blue chairs in their crisp white shirts, brown pants and maroon graduation gowns.

Geo Television Network managing director and alumni Azhar Abbas, the chief guest, was received outside the gymnasium by students. The host of the ceremony kicked off the event by reminiscing about school days. “No matter where we go, the memories we have made at school will remain with us forever,” he said. “As everything has to come to an end, a student has to leave school too.” He added that most students wanted to remember their last day at school and in order to make it memorable, the school administration had come up with convocation day.

Principal Almas Bana welcomed guests to the ceremony and talked about how the school had developed and transformed over the years. While talking to The Express Tribune, he said that they had redesigned the school after analyzing the infrastructure facilities and curriculum. He added that nearly Rs250 million had been invested in renovating it.

The chief guest remembered that when he was at school they used to be punished for not wearing the proper shoes. He added that when he entered the school for the ceremony the first thought in his head was that he was wearing black shoes. The administration awarded Abbas with a small memento after which the examination controller started distributing certificates and awards to the students.

A student named Syed Waqas Hussain scored 90.7 per cent in the SSC part II examination and gave all the credit his parents and teachers for who believed in him. M Hashir, who scored 13 As in the O’ Levels said that he used to sleep a lot but his mother used to keep waking him up to study. “She always used to say, first study and become someone and then you can rest as much as you want.”
