Speaking at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Haroon said that many countries that Pakistan was not being associated with countries it once considered as friends, but India had supported Pakistan in getting elected on the 15 member UNSC.
Haroon added that Pakistan had worked hard in the past six months to win the UNSC seat.
The ambassador said that Pakistan was devoted to promoting principles and fulfilling purposes protected in the UN Charter.
He said:
I think we should not be discouraged by the reaction by some of the nations in the UN because I can say the world wants Pakistan to play its positive role in the global scenario.
Earlier, Haroon said that Pakistan would work with all the members of the Security Council, especially India.
He said that good, working relations are being developed between India and Pakistan.
Haroon also acknowledged differences with United States over militant groups such as Haqqani network.
Pakistan will replace Lebanon in the UNSC January 1, 2012, for two-year tenure.

@Agha: Well, we don't need to get you impressed..not even worth 2 cents...it was just a reciprocal gesture that was well appreciated by Mr. Haroon since that single vote made the ultimate difference with pakistan not having to go for another round of voting.
@Adnan: I think you've no idea abt UN process. Pakistan needed 2/3rd majority in order not to go for another round of voting (which would have gone anyways) and got exactly that, 129 votes....So, India's 1 vote was vital (make or break in this situation)..Where as India got 187 votes out of 190, so Pakistan's vote was considered as symbolic gesture..
@Adnan: read above to javed's note;it will teach you the calculations .yes, pakistan would not have been elected ,if india had not voted for it
@Adnan: last i heard it was pakistan-not only neibhors, but the whole wild world
Mr Haroon This is your personal Friendship. You sold Kashmir to get India's vote. I am not Pakistani or Indian. I am Kashmiri. I feel you have last our friend ship.No one can stop Independent Kashmir. India cannot treat us as slaves any more. Winter of Kashmir has began.
@Dr Priyanka: It seems the bigger the country, the smaller the minds of its political leadership. Ever wonder why India's relations with all its neighbours are so bad?
@csmann: Errrrm...so let me get this straight: Pakistan needed 1 vote to secure the 2/3rds majority and that 'pivotal' vote came from India? You mean if India had not voted for Pakistan, it would not have got elected to the Security Council? Really???!
Haroon simply acknowledged India's support, as 1 of the 129 votes cast in favour of Pakistan: the way the Indian media is projecting this, you would think India had a 'veto' it could exercise in order to stop Pakistan from being elected! Get real: Pakistan would have been elected with or without India's support and rather than be the petty 'spoiler' which India traditionally has been with issues involving Pakistan, it decided to appear as the great 'supporter' and gain some cheap 'brownie points'- knowing full well that Pakistan would in any case have succeeded, even if it meant going to a second round.
the love for our Neighbour(Ham-Saya= Our Shadow) is the measure of our daily life.
@Agha: My friend, there is no mutual contract. India last time got 187 votes - I think only 3 countries did not vote for India - hence Pakistan's vote was not vital. On the other hand, India's vote for Kyrgs would have ensured that Pakistan would not get the necessary 2/3rd majority in the first round, which would have been an embarassment - this was avoided with India's help. I understand that your inferiority complex prevents you from acknowledging any help in the right spirit, and that's ok. We are big enough to allow others to belittle themselves. All the best to Pakistan for their 2-year term - I hope that our relationship moves in the right direction during this time.
@Adnan: you did no read the news;with india's vote, pakistan barely made it to the 2/3 rd required to become a member;go eat ur heart, and let peace work
@adnan.. Huh? Pakistan got 129 votes and a country would require 2/3 majority= 129 votes. So how exactly was Pak going to win If India didn't. vote for Pak? UN elections didn't work the way our local elections work. It's not about who gets highest number of votes. If Pak had 128 and Krygzystan 56 votes, no one will be declared winner since no one got 2/3 votes of total 194 votes
@Agha: And pray who wants to impress you?
@Adnan: I agree with you. We need to grow up. But even while we are not fully grown up we yield some influence. Don't you agree? And there are some in this world, who just grow old but never grow up!
Banyeh ka baita kuch dekh kar hi girta hay..............................
(Son of Bunya will only fall on ground after seeing something there)
I cannot believe that Indian establishment has started loving Pakistan... I am sorry - that is not possible.
Here I am not refering to a common Indian citizen.
Very positive sign. Once the legitimate leaders on both sides start acknowledging the goodness of each other, people will follow. We need not have anything against each other. Some misunderstandings exist, but those can be easily cleared out. End of the day we are all human beings trying to survive. The problems ahead of us are difficult but they can be solved through cooperation. Thanks to India for this favor and yes, I am a Pakistani.
Thanks to our neighbors!! 1st act from India which prove that we are their most favorite nation. On a funny note What happens at the time of IPL?
A big thank you to Mr Haroon for the acknowledgement of support by India. Indian foreign ministry also acted maturely by playing it down and not issuing any statement of having extended support to Pakistan. Pakistan had earlier returned the Indian chopper along with its crew. This is great going for both countries and hope it continues.
@Surya There is a mutual contract between India and Pakistan for voting for each other in these elections, please don't think that we are impressed
Actually Hussain Haroon only said India 'supported' Pakistan's election to the UNSC. The Times of India report elevated this to 'a big role', no doubt obsessed with India's self-importance. ET then embellished this further by terming their support 'vital'.
The fact of the matter is that Pakistan would have won any way and did not need India's 'support'. It was pitted against Kyrgystan that won only 55 votes against Pakistan's 129 votes. It does, however, represent a refreshing change from India's usual position to oppose tooth and nail anything that Pakistan does on the international stage: so is India finally 'growing up'? No, more likely a resignation to the fact that Pakistan was going to win with a resounding majority and a transparent attempt by India to try and win 'brownie points' with Pakistan in the process.
Hussain, give it a rest!
Now we are talking. See you supported and next day your heli was returned as Diwali gift. Things can be sorted out if there is a willingness.
Great news. Looks like all the "India haters" and conspiracy theorists are quiet. What a shock.
You are welcome!
Indians are very logical in their actions I have meet many Indians at different forums and found them to be very helping and logical in their actions not
Congrats, first diplomatic success after a long period of time.
This article shows that India does not consider Pakistan a threat. India has developed confidence in dealing with Pakistan at all levels. Lately India does not loose cool at Pakistan's unfriendly actions. India can live and progress with or without Pakistan. Now its up to Pakistan what relations she wants with India.
This is not to be taken as some sort of a favour by India to Pakistan. It is in the enlightened interest of the whole world community to encourage its each and every member-state to desist from indulging in unsocial or/and antisocial behaviour. Sooner Pakistan realizes that no one, least of all its neighours like India, wishes to see it behave in a responsible, mature way, the better it is for itself and all others. Let us hope it induces Pakistan to stop the kind of behaviour which has only landed it into a pariah state!
Mubaarka ji Mubaarka
It must be cunning India with some ulterior motive trying to hoodwink simple, honest Pkaistan.
Thank you India. Hopefully we both can work towards peace and harmony in the region, as well as trust issues.
Thank you Haroon saab.
May the hatemongers stay away from this post for a change.
excellent news, this is what both countries need helping each other. I know Indians do not hate Pakistani people and Pakistani people do not hate Indians.lets take this cooperation further and be friends. stop spend on weapons and start spending on education, health, roads, infrastructure.
this news may not be published in local media... but whatever could be national sentiments, i am sure pakistan will play a responsible part on world stage... best of luck
Good to hear this
How come no comments?? where are the paki hawks with conspiracy theories?? lolz
