The government will soon set up a technical institute in Sialkot for training of women as a useful industrial force and the project will be financed by the Export Development Fund (EDF).
National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry Chairman Muhammad Akram Ansari announced this while speaking to members of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He said textile was one of the most important industrial sectors and the government was taking all necessary steps for its development. He said steps would also be taken with the assistance of central and provincial governments for establishing a garments industrial park in Sialkot.
Talking about gas outages, he called on Sui Northern Gas Pipelines to take solid measures to stop gas theft and keep in mind the shortage before giving new connections in order to save the textile and other industries from the effects of load-shedding.
He said garment manufacturers would be given representation on boards of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority, Trade Development Authority and the textile body. Proposals of textile industrialists would also be considered in the textile policy review.
