Tennis: Tipsarevic maintains good run

His opponent Michael Berrer retired with an illness.

Janko Tipsarevic advanced to the quarter-finals of the St Petersburg Open after his opponent Michael Berrer retired with an illness. Second-seed Tipsarevic, who won the Kremlin Cup last week in Moscow, was leading Berrer 6-3, 2-0 when the German called it quits.


“I knew it was going to be a tricky match,” said the Serb. “I feel like I did a lot of running in the first set.” Tipsarevic’s faces Potito Starace in the quarter-final after the Italian upset  Dmitry Tursunov 6-2, 6-4.
