WAPDA’s Azmat shines in Quaid Trophy

Batsman hits tons in both innings against Sialkot.

Ali Azmat followed up his first-innings century with another ton in the second as Wapda beat Sialkot by five wickets on the fourth day of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match at the Jinnah Stadium.

Azmat, who scored 101 in Wapda’s total of 296 that helped them gain a lead of 157, scored an unbeaten 106 to help the side overhaul the 240-run target. Mohammad Abbas claimed three for 67 but there was little support from the other Sialkot bowlers, who were unable to capitalise on a Mohammad Ayub double ton that helped the hosts post an improved score of 396 in the second-innings.

Rawalpindi win narrowly

In a close encounter, Rawalpindi prevailed over ZTBL by 25 runs for their first win of the season. Fast-bowler Sadaf Hussain, who finished with 12 wickets in the match, took six for 113 in the second-innings to ensure ZTBL were bowled out for 229 with wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider’s 76 going in vain.

Baber Azam took three for 54 to help Rawalpindi to the win. Earlier, Rawalpindi made 304 before ZTBL were bowled out for 212. The hosts were then dismissed in their second innings for a paltry 162, to set a modest 255-run total.

NBP draw with Faisalabad

In another match, NBP drew with Faisalabad but not before giving the hosts a run for their money. After posting a mammoth 539 for four declared, courtesy centuries by Aqeel Anjum, Fawad Alam and Qaiser Abbas, Faisalabad were bowled out for 376 and were forced to follow-on after a 163-run deficit.

In the 49 overs possible, Faisalabad lost five wickets for 108 runs but it was enough to ensure a draw.
