Bugti was killed along with his 35 comrades in a military action on August 26, 2006 in the mountainous Bhamboor Range near Kohlu and Bugti tribal territory following a two-day battle.
The crime branch investigating the case requested Judicial Magistrate-VI Faisal Hameed to issue the arrest warrants. The crime branch had earlier obtained arrest warrants for former home minister and sitting member of the Provincial Assembly Shoaib Ahmed Nosherwani.
Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, the eldest surviving son of Bugti, had registered an FIR at the Dera Bugti police station against Musharraf, Shaukat Aziz, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, former governor of Balochistan Owais Ahmed Ghani, former chief minister Jam Muhammad Yousaf and then home minister of Balochistan Shoaib Ahmed Nosherwani. He held them all responsible for his father’s murder.
The police registered the FIR following the directives of the Balochistan High Court (BHC), as they had earlier refused to register a case against the former dictator and the other political figures.
Sherpao and Ghani had submitted a reply before the BHC saying that since they were part of the civilian set-up, and the operation was launched by the army, they had nothing to do with Bugti’s killing. They also assured complete cooperation with the investigation team.
The Balochistan government had earlier requested the federal government to extradite Musharraf, but the federal government had asked for his arrest warrant which is required by Interpol in order for it to issue red warrants to nab fugitives.
“Today [Friday] the judicial magistrate in Quetta issued an arrest warrant for both Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz,” Adnan Kasi, a lawyer representing Jamil, told AFP.
The arrest warrants will be sent to the federal government to take steps to present the accused in court, Kasi said.

I think Pakistan has bigger issues than arresting Mr. Bugti's murderers.
First of all justice has to be done by the people of Pakistan . They have tasted the Mush regime . He has approached up to the solution ot Kashmir dispute ,the origin point of the peace path in the sib-continent . Now the choice id your's.By the way uho so ever be in power in Pakistan will have to follow the Mush policy . No one can afford to leave the grip of uae and us there who so ever he or she may be . If not agree..... Try a test of your opinian , and see the result .
thats the only good thing done by musharraf ;-)
After all there is God and justice. Mush would have his day in court and would get the justice.
@blacksheep: Good point. Totally agreed. We are a unique nation who protect corrupt politicians and make them to rule on our heads. Still these old faces win thru fakes votes and un-educated politicians fill their swiss bank accounts without caring about the poor and middle class tax money to make their luxury palaces, luxury cars and expensive protocol with security and to make international tours all on our tax money.
@Khalid Masood:
we will see next march. i can guarantee you inshallah he will return. pakistan needs him.
@Hamid: If someone comes attacking your house will you respond? It is easy to say that Bugti died in combat, but in reality the army had no right to attack his home.
While I'm a strong critic of Musharraf, and don't condone Pakistan's mistreatment of Baluchistan and their natives, nor extra-judicial killings, I really don't have much sympathy for Bugti and see this as a waste of time in a country where they could open up other legit principled cases, such as missing persons.
Here's a good read from back in 2006 on the situation after Bugti's death.
@Naveed: Wht a joke! Mr. Bugti blew himself up and killed the army officers. Basically you are saying that he was a suicide bomber! Nothing could be further from the truth. 80 years old leaders do not blow themselves up, like mullahs they train kids to do that. Where are the Islamists who preach that head of the state is responsible for all? BB is killed after repeat attacks, Bugti was murdered but the head of the state is not responsibel. Just like settling OBL in military garrison for 5 years and Mush or generals were not responsible. Too bad they cannot give the blame to PPP govt for being in bed with OBL.
The warrent issued by the judge is to create problem before the federal Govt. . Every one know the fact that Musarraf is going ro contest the next election and no one can arrest him . In such a circumstances Baguti supporters will stress on the demand to reject his candidature , which is almost impossible . As a result Balochistan will become more disturbed province of pakistan in the years to come .
Mr Bugti was niether a terrorist nor a traitor . He was a pro-state , pro-federation nationalist. There is nothing wrong in being a nationalist , the only problem was that he become too corrupt of his Nawabi and sardari power . He used to get illegal stipends and extortion from the government i.e. SUI royality , he never spent a peny of that on developement of his area and people. He owned a private jail and might have punished so many innocent extra judiciously violating basic human rights as well . Once Mr Musharaf stopped the stipend and other illegal royalities and tried to develope the area , he turned agaisnt the goverment and LEAs. He must have indirectly killed many innnocent , FC or Army soldiers. I think before bringing then Mr President to the court we may also open cases posthomously agaisnt respected nawab sahib of innocent civilians and soldiers hounarbly laid to rest by him. so what the deal , lets begin justice.
@M.Akthar: Bravery is not getting hit by the bullet while you know someone is goign to shoot you, bravery is how to tackle the person who is trying to hit you with the bullet. Bravery is not crying in the jail and ask for saudia to deal you outside pakistan, bravery is to tackle the situatuion that will get you the result without maximum disruption.
Musharraf is not a poor man, he was an army general, i don't understand why people talk without facts and common sense and think they are so genious.. GROW UP people of Pakistan to save Pakistan
@Variable X: "If you own an army, plus if your men are bombing the pipeline and if your are trying to run state within state then you should be killed"
I see so this criteria does apply to a former chief minister of a province but did not apply to Jalaluddin and Sirajuddin Haqqani and Mulla Radio - with allof whom Musharraf had signed peace treaties?
@Adam: "Bughti killed five Chineese Engineers working on devlopment project. He deserved for what was done to him. He was working for RAW as are his sons. " The same approach was taken with regards to legitimate Bengali grievances and Pakistan lost half the country. Rather than calling an ex-Chiem Minister of a Province a RAW agent, it is beter to address the Baloch grievances - so that Pakistan does not break any further.
@M.Akthar: He ran away because corrup[t politicians will come after him. If I were there I would do the same and run away. Who you think are you that courageous to face those ruthless corrupt politicians who are looting our country?
Bugti and its people blow up the Sui gas pipeline that means damage to Pakistan backbone. He wants Balochistan ppl to be un-educated and doesnt want to see Balochistan as a welfare state. Army action against him was right.
@Salar: Akbar Bugti was never murdered. Rather he killed about a dozen of Army Officers and Men before he killed himself. His body was nothing but heap of flesh once taken out of the cave he blasted himself. What could be shown to media or his family members? All this action is done to stop Mush from coming to Pak.
And I am sure he is not coming back to Pak in near future.
Do you think the Brave General Musharraf who run away from Pakistan will ever comeback? If the General was so courageous why would he run away to UK in the first case? How does he have so much money to live a comfortable life in UK? Living in UK costs a lot, ten`s of thousands of pounds, where did get so much money and how?
Questions, Questions but no answers in Pakistan.
Bugti killed himself
@Tauseef: I will add some more lines. In J&K, the main pro Pak leader is Syed Ali Shah Gilani & he is still alive even though the terrorism in J&K is on since 1989. In any mature democracy you negotiate or atleast keep the doors open but do not kill the main leaders.
told ya!!!!!! :p
@Tauseef Bughti killed one major along with four army personnel, who went to ask him to surrender through a negotiated peace deal. Bughti killed five Chineese Engineers working on devlopment project. He deserved for what was done to him. He was working for RAW as are his sons.
bugti committed suicide by blowing in cave causing casualties of high rank army officers who went to negotiate this is the official verdict...but no one mention this..
please correct spelling "ABKAR"! such proceedings have no value in current scenarios,
Bugti died in a combat, and now they say he is innocent? CRAP
@Ghulam Murtaza: I absolutely agree. Just a political gimmick. Another exercise to make a fool out of us in their election speeches.
@R. Khan: Even if Bugti was a murderer or a terrorist, as you say, killing him shows we prefer dealing with murderers and terrorists in an extra-judicial way rather than bringing them to a court of law!
If state of Pakistan wishes to deal with dissidents in this manner then we should not shout at Balochis for their demands on liberation from Pakistan.
Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was martyred in August 2006, not March 2006. The arrest warrant has come in the wake of Musharaf announcement that he was returning to Pakistan and join the mainstream politics. It seems the arrest warrants are politically motivated not legally intended. Baloch nationalists consider Pakistani military and its establishment responsible for killing of Bugti. If Musharaf is convicted and brought to justice, the scope of case will naturally cover all the military officers and para-military force who took parts in the extra-judicial killing. i do not think that powerfull pakistani military elite will let any proceeding of judiciary convicting Musharaf happen.
two heros
If you own an army, plus if your men are bombing the pipeline and if your are trying to run state within state then you should be killed. Dont feel sorry for Bugti Mugti!
Bugti was a murderer & a terrorist!
Akbar*
Classic examle as to why the people look elsewhere for justice - could anything move slower ??
Thats it! March is welcoming You O 'chief of Marching'.
