The rocket fire targeting American forces often originates within sight of border posts manned by Pakistan's Frontier Corps, said Lieutenant General Curtis Scaparrotti, deputy US commander in Afghanistan.
"In some locations from time to time you will see what just appears to us to be a collaboration... or at a minimum a looking the other way when insurgents conducted rocket or mortar fire in what we believe to be (within) visual sight of one of their (Pakistan military) posts," Scaparrotti told reporters via video link from Kabul.
Soldiers from the Pakistani Frontier Corps are locally recruited and not as highly trained as regular army units, he said.

The cross-border attacks have increased dramatically in eastern Paktika province in recent months, with rocket and other fire four times higher than in previous years, he said.
"We talk very bluntly with our Pakistani counterparts about this," he said.
The rocket fire has coincided with a virtual breakdown in communications between US and Pakistani officers along the border since May, when American special operations forces killed al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden at his compound in Pakistan in a unilateral raid that angered Islamabad.
A year ago, it was common to have radio communications between Afghan and NATO forces and Pakistan's Frontier Corps stationed along the border as well as quarterly planning conferences among officers, the general said.
"About (in) May this past year after the Bin Laden raid, those routine communications just were not available in most cases. We had a difficult time arranging border flag meetings, we had a difficult time arranging border communications back and forth," he said.
But Scaparrotti said he had recently paid a visit across the border to confer with his Pakistani military counterparts and was hopeful that regular communications could be restored along the border.
US officials see the Haqqani network, which uses sanctuaries in Pakistan to stage attacks in eastern Afghanistan and beyond, as a growing threat and allege it has ties to Pakistan's military intelligence service.
NATO-led troops and Afghan forces have targeted the Haqqani militants and their supply routes in a recent major operation near the border, which Scaparrotti said had damaged the insurgent network.
Operation "Knife Edge" involved Afghan army units and elements of three brigades from the NATO-led coalition, as well as Afghan and allied special operations forces carrying out night raids.

why are you all so unhappy with do more demand OK do little keep the terrorists and kill the citizens its also a way of controlling population in Pakistan and by the way who is the one who thinks that Pakistan will financially collapse if it fights terrorists....how strange they are looting plundering kidnapping killing does it add to Pak wealth.what a army mind set. Pak army boasts that it can fight India and USA but fails to control few terrorists why????????
@Tariq: and what about 70 billion Pak lost?
Sao Lao, nothing will do but an American presence of four or five hundred thousand men for at least five or six years. If Americans are unwilling to put up with the expense of doing that, we should withdraw. Nothing less will accomplish anything of lasting value.
Exactly zilch will be done by the international community about this as long as Karzai doesn't acknowledge the Durand Line IS the border, and as long as Pakistan doesn't pressure him to. The strategic ambiguity serves Pakistan's desires, giving them cover to keep supporting the Taliban, Haqqani network, and whoever else can give them "stategic depth" against India.
Karzai probably hopes for Afghanistan to become a province of Pakistan---with himself as governor-general, of course.
The war clouds are hovering on your heads.............Pakistan...
I can feel the pain of the Americans. If it were any other Country they would've been sanctioned and literally choked. But, Pakistan has one thing which the US wants- Supply line.
So, what will happen? Nothing. Things cannot happen until that roadblock is removed. That can happen only in 2014. That is when Pakistan ceases to be a supply route. Then, all hell will brake loose. I see Sanctions loud and clear.
@starboy: financial collapse of pakistan will be more harmful for the region as then they will sell nukes to survive because they dont have anyhthing else to sell.because all the foreign aid they got earlier & all the funds have been invested in nukes.
US generals please come up with some new allegations....this blame game is getting boring....its like watching Steven Segal movie....the title is different but its the same everytime... :p)
US needs to do more to prevent cross border infiltration of armed and trained militants from AFGHANISTAN into PAKISTAN. We have more than enough troops there (90,000+) and cant afford more. Its time USA come forward to do the job.
If Americans wants to gain respect and appreciation of Pakistan, They need to take out the Anti Pakistan elements e.g. hakimullah mehsud, radio mullah, ttp, bramdagh bugti,
Do more, and Pakistan did four times more? What is the issue?
pakistan should stop supporting terrorism and exporting terrorists,
So defend yourselves rather than complain to mama-in-law.
Remember the sooner you get out of the Afghan imbroglio, the sooner it is better for your homeless and jobless people. Also for the European Union which is having a hard time supporting the Eurozone.
Salams.
Pakistan's rhetoric aside, it is inconceivable after so much talibanization of the society, the pakistani generals insist that their army is loyal to them, if they themselves are not loyal to the talibans.
Who's surprised? Pakistan continues to live up to it's terrible reputation - the ally that will stab you in the back.
@starboy: What about the 20 billion dollars of aid?
Do more, Do more untill pakistan financially collapse.
This could so easily get out of hand. In a quest for a better deal in Afghanistan, I hope Pakistan is not lost.
speak something new.. we know these double face games pretty well..
These rocket attacks do not kill innocent civilians as the drones
Vienna,28-10-2011 Live border is dangerous, in this case with the United States. There is no need for American boots to be invited for American fire, which is according to international law legitimate.Retalliatory strikes can be made without declaring war. That is reality between Pakistan and the US=undeclared war.Ten years ago it was an anti-terrorism war partnership ending with proven deception.A highly danger zone. Who rules a sovereign Pakistan? Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
What do they expect when we are being fired at and attacked, do the Americans think that we will send them toffees? Propoganda,Propoganda and propoganda to put pressure on us!!! Keep trying uncle Sam.
Very inappropriate to put a picture of a Pakistan Army soldier when the news piece is about militants firing rockets... NOT the Pakistani Army.
likewise sir.
Ally against ally! How can it be possible? is it the ground being prepared to attack hiding at the back of Afghan army. " Sanp bhi marjaye aur lathi bhi na tutey"..
so i guess when the Afghan militants attack Pakistani check posts, they don't attack from Afghanistan but go to Mars first so that the US and NATO forces can't see them and hence the US and NATO forces can't be held accountable for such attacks...it's a real pity that we don't have strong and decisive leaders who don't take up the issue of such insurgent attacks directly with the US and in the UN.
How can an ally think to attack another .Is it the ground being prepared against Pakistan to launch an attack with the collaboration of Afghan army."Sanp bhi marjaye our lathi bhi na tutey". we must be prepared to countervail .
Just one more reason that no one listens to Pakistan when they rant about NATO or American's violating "sovereignty".
blah blah blah....what about 1000% increase of cross border attacks on Pakistani forces? US should stop moaning and leave Afghanistan.
It is clear now that the US wants a military conflict with Pakistan. A war in this region is inevitable now.
I don't think the civilians in Pakistan want this.
