Road administration: Traffic plan finalised for Benazir Bhutto Road flyover construction

Officials urge commuters to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

RAWALPINDI:

City Traffic Police has finalised a comprehensive traffic plan especially formulated for the three-month construction period of the flyover at Benazir Bhutto Road that started recently.

According to the traffic plan more than 115 traffic wardens have been appointed to ensure a smooth traffic flow during the construction period. In addition alternative routes will also be provided to minimise the traffic load on the city’s busiest highway.

Senior Officer Traffic Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah said that the motorists should use alternative routes through Rehmanabad, Sadiqabad, Ali Nawaz Chowk, Rawal Road, Tippu Road via Railto Chowk to reach Rawalpindi from Islamabad.

Likewise, in order to travel to Islamabad from Rawalpindi commuters should use the Benazir Bhutto road Committee Chowk underpass via Asghar Mall Chowk, Saidpur Road Chowk and Sixth Road.

Chief Traffic Officer and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ghulam Abbas Tarar said that about 73 per cent of the traffic load of Benazir Bhutto Road would be diverted to alternative routes of the city during the period. In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on other routes, all encroachments are being removed, he added.

He urged citizens to cooperate with the traffic police so that all traffic related problems could be addressed properly.

The SSP said traffic police officials have been directed to take action against violation of any traffic law, keeping a vigilant eye on suspicious vehicles and taking all measure to avert road congestion problems.
