Ikarmul Haq Sheikh, a veteran journalist, passed away after a brief illness in Madina, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning. He was 84. He leaves behind two sons, Tahir Ikarm and Saqib Farooq, a daughter, and grand children.
He was in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj along with his family members including his son Saqib Farooq, daughter-in-law and daughter, family sources told The Express Tribune.
He has been laid to rest in Jannatul Baqi, Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh, who spent 60 years of his life in journalism, was widely respected for his professionalism, understanding of economic and social issues and as a good person.
Born in 1927 in New Delhi, Ikram graduated from Anglo-Arabic College Delhi. He did his Masters in History from Delhi University and Karachi University.
He started his career as journalist in 1948 by joining daily Dawn in Karachi. He then moved to Pakistan Times and worked for the newspaper in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Ikram joined Business Recorder as its Bureau Chief in Islamabad and remained associated with it for 27 years. His dedication and commitment to his profession is highly regarded among journalists.
