Banning Bin Laden

LAHORE: This is with reference to Selina Rashid’s “Banning Bin Laden “(July 16). The writer raises simplistic questions about censorship with the sole aim apparently being to criticise the government and the team of professionals on the censor board for making a decision after giving the matter due consideration. No one disputes the need for freedom of speech, or the media’s independence, however, sometimes regulatory bodies may take decisions with the best interests of the people in mind. Pointing fingers without knowing their considerations is unfair. A film cannot be more important than our nation’s security.
