Defamation: MPA wants Rs500m in damages

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to a PML-N MPA Nighat Nasir on a petition seeking Rs500 million as damages for defaming PML-Q’s Dr Faiza Asghar. Dr Faiza, through her counsel, submitted that Ms Nighat, by leveling false allegations of corruption against her, had damaged her reputation. The petitioner said that the allegations, which had never been proved, had caused her mental stress. She prayed that the respondent MPA be directed to pay Rs500 million in damages. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed issued a notice to the respondent to reply by November 15.
