Ajk chief justice attack: Bar associations boycott courts

KARACHI:

The Karachi, Sindh High Court (SHC) and Malir bar associations boycotted court proceedings on Wednesday in protest against an attack on the chief justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

The judge was shot and injured as he was jogging in a park. The majority of lawyers did not attend hearings at the City Court Complex but the judicial officers were present as usual. Only a handful of people showed up at the SHC. The managing committees of all three bar associations met separately at their offices and passed resolutions. The Karachi Bar Association committee  said that the incident exposed the security situation in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

It criticised the government for failing to protect the people.

Their resolution asked for a detailed inquiry into the incident and arrests of those involved.
