LONDON:
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said he would retire from Test cricket following the second Test against Australia at Headingley starting next Wednesday.
He made his announcement to BBC Radio after leading Pakistan to a 150-run defeat in the first Test at Lord's on Friday.
Afridi said he no longer had the temperament for the five-day game after what was his first Test in four years.

Feel Sorry for Shahid Afridi but off course he was not good with test cricket format! But i am afraid of how he kept our team united, others like butt or younis can do or not!
Actually the thing is need to change is level of corruption in PCB! Seems that the PSB's expenditures amount is in Ejaz Butt's Tummy :P! Malcolm Speed was right about Him and he should now follow his comments and take the chairperson ship of theaters of Pakistan!

lolx..yah rite he played around 300 ODI's...and made records which no other indian, australian could make in this short period..and thts y he is the best..the very best!
and whereas his place in playing X1 is concerned, i think u are again one of them who wants him to perform with bat consistently then noticing tht he was Pakistan's top Bowler in 2007, second best in 2008, And still u question his place in the team :O

@Nazir Habib: I never meant he should retire from all sorta cricket. He is no doubt a brilliant bowling all rounder and any captain of the world would love to keep him in his eleven. As far as the test matches are concerned he did it right. It doesn't suit his temperament.
Our best wishes are with him to lead the team in limited over cricket.

We do have a solid reasons to discuss the bad leadership of Shahid Afridi, but those who says he is "the best the very best" looks emotional.
Shahid Afridi played around 300 one day, similar to Indian, Australian and Sri-lanken top 5 players with opportunities to play at all positions, but his performance always and without a doubt jittery.
The under mentioned link is self explanatory and shows that on merit he is not capable of even playing in the side as compared to the other best player of Pakistan who are out of team.

God bless Shahid afridi and I wish him success in the future.

Agreed the self assessment / introspection helped him make a spontaneous decision. But in the start of an overseas tour? No! Frankly there's more to it than meets the eye. Read a leading English daily of July 17 2010.
Indiscipline is the order of the day. Even M. Aamer was cautioned for two incidents involving M. Clarke and R. Ponting (another English daily, July 16 2010). This speaks hopelessly of our teamwork. The PCB is a fish out of water. It has not been able to set its sights on how it wants to build a solid team for the country.
Afridi is an aggressive cricketer and manages to keep the team together largely. At the end of the day we all consider ourselves smarter than the other person. This is a clear cut case of jealousy and intrigue. Afridi is still a good choice buttressed by Younis and Yousaf in the team.
With best wishes to Afridi.

nice decision,,, @ waqar do worry he is afridi, and he keeps his words... well i don't think that any one of these players playing now has the talent to go for a test match. they are good only for one day matches...

Why not today, give captancy to salman butt and call yousaf and younis in the team. At least we don't want unplayed defeat and imature battinh by the leader. I am sorry for afridi but he has never been an outstanding player. Our bowler are great. Keep it up the good work.

Wonderful self-assessment! I really appreciate that.
Every member of the team should assess honestly. Perhaps now its time Razzak too.
