Sri Lanka cricketers not paid since March

SLC yet to receive World Cup dues from ICC, says chief.

COLOMBO: The financial crisis that has engulfed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has resulted in non-payment of salaries for the national as well as the contracted domestic cricketers since March, admitted SLC’s interim committee chief Upali Dharmadasa.

While denying reports that the SLC was in debt as high as $4 billion, Dharmadasa did confirm that its dues from staging the World Cup have not been settled yet by the International Cricket Council — an amount expected to be in the region of $4 to 5 million.

“The government has offered us respite by settling the outstanding amount owed to its institutions but a huge amount is still outstanding which has to be paid for the construction and face-lifting of the stadiums,” said Dharmadasa.
