KARACHI: Director General Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Javed Miandad on Thursday met with President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed problems being faced by Pakistani cricket.

According to sources in the President House, the meeting took place on the request of Javed Miandad. During the meeting views were exchanged on matters related to the Pakistan Cricket Board administration and the overall performance of the cricket team.

President Zardari said that there is not only a need to improve the performance of the cricket team but continuity in winning matches is imperative in order to become the world’s champion cricket team as it was 10 years ago. He said that the standard of cricket team needs to be brought up and for this it is essential that improvement be made at the domestic cricket level. He said that government is paying attention to promoting sports including cricket in the country.

Later, talking to media Miandad said that the President instructed him to continue working as DG and assured that the problems faced by the cricket team would be resolved. He said that the President not only understands cricket but is taking a keen interest in improving the national sport.

Miandad said the Pakistani cricket team is in a lull because it lacks good batsmen while having the world’s best bowling attack. He said that it seems difficult that Pakistan would win the test series against Australia and that if Pakistan wanted to survive its batsmen needed to show good performance and stay on the wickets.
