KU teachers demand cancellation of Rehman Malik's honorary PhD degree
The president of the society Hasnain Abid, while talking to the media said the degree issued to Malik was against the rules of the university.
He said that the university syndicate was not consulted over the issue and a commission should be formed to investigate the process through which the degree was issued.
The association has announced strike on October 26 to protest the issuance of degree to the interior minister.
As reported earlier, the teachers society had passed a unanimous resolution asking the chancellor, Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, and the vice chancellor, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, to revoke the honorary doctorate degree.
The University of Karachi conferred the honorary doctorate degree on Malik at a special Convocation held at Governor House, in recognition of his “matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to citizens of Karachi.”
The ceremony was attended by the vice-chancellor of the university and pro-vice chancellors Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and Dr Nasiruddin Khan.

I have independently created "TIME THEORY OF EVERYTHING". Whoa ! A whole lot of ungrateful people . You may love to hate Mr.Abdur Rehman Malik but you cannot deny the very fact that he brought peace , no matter how short live this might be , to this city .
University teachers who have been appointed on the basis of the urban-rural ( ! ) quota system , themselves ,should think twice that had it not been for Mr.Malik many of them and us ,would have ended up in gunny sacks by the terrorists by now ..

Shame on Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of KU. Well done KUTS. Al least we should protest that a reputable institution is being used for political purposes.
@Tanzeel: Its a matter of shame for those who earn degrees, those who haven't been to university can't understand the pain. Stop ruining reputation of my universities for political benefits!

Teachers' demand for cancellation of RM's degree is justified. Award of such a degree is an insult to the faculty and the institution itself.
@Tanzeel: Well issuing degrees like that brings down the worth of their hard earned degrees. So, sure they have right to register their complaints.

isnt it the teachers who teach, assess, evaluate and examine a student for the conferment of any award.
