Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) debutants Muslim FC climbed to the second spot in the standings, defeating HBL 2-1 to replace Afghan FC from the number two position behind leaders KRL.
Muslim FC took the lead through Muhammad Dawood’s strike in the 16th minute, but HBL did not take long to hit back, equalising through Mohammad Hadeed in the 26th minute. HBL’s joy, however, remained short-lived as Muslim FC’s Mohammad Hanif scored the winner just three minutes later.
Dawood was a delighted man after the victory.
“Wining a match against HBL is an achievement,” Dawood told The Express Tribune.
“They are one of the oldest clubs in the country and to outplay them is something that makes me proud.
“This is our first season in the PPFL and getting to defeat the stronger teams is just priceless. Our target is to stay among the top 10 teams at the end of the league in December.”
Meanwhile, Army registered a 2-0 win over Navy. After the goal-less first half, Army’s Mubbashir Hussain scored in the 64th minute. Navy made six attempts on goal during the second half but failed to score, with Army’s Aqeel Yousuf sealing the victory for his team in the 84th minute.
In another match Police restricted PIA to a goal-less draw in Quetta.
