The Indian foreign minister said the two countries should resolve issues between them to create a situation that can help with development in the region.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is currently in Pakistan for talks with top officials. Talks on Thursday between top civil, military and intelligence officials from Pakistan and the US made little progress in the effort to iron out differences on how to tackle the Haqqani network.
The two-hour long discussions, led by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Clinton, were held against the backdrop of strained ties between Washington and Islamabad following charges by US officials that Pakistan is playing a ‘double game’ when it comes to dealing with militants.
Relations between Pakistan and the US deteriorated dramatically over the May 2 American special forces raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad and US accusations over the September 13 US embassy siege in Kabul.

@Enlightened: Really? Does Only Pakistan has right to put its nose in every country's affair? India, China Iran and Afganistan. You have poked your nose in every of these countries (except your own). So heed to advice you try to give others.
@Enlightened: 1) I don't know what business Pakistanis have in asking any country to keep its 'nose out of Afghanistan’s business'. It is completely is a independent decision to be made between two sovereign nations. So where does Pakistan even figure in this business? Stop being insecure... 2) "Unlike Pakistan, India does not have any borders with Afghanistan and she hosts no Afghan refugees". So your logic must hold good to Palestine and other Muslim countries which don't have a continuous border with Pakistan. So why bother of the Muslim brethern.... And do you impliedly mean that just because you share a border with India you have a right to poke your nose in India's business..
@Ali Tanoli:
IMO:-He may not be worried about Pakistan as such but concerned only with probable consequences to the Region. Krishna's job is to worry primarily about India and that is the country he really meant when he said:"devastating consequences for other countries". Historically invasions to the west of the Subcontinent have always resulted in unforeseen consequences.
Besides, his suggestion is meant for the Americans who never tire of doling out counsel to India to negotiate with Pakistan so that Pak-Army,free from worries in the east, devotes more troops in North Waziristan. Finally, Krishna is of the generation and of the Party that believes in Nehruvian legacy of handing out gratis advise to the West. .
Ha! Americans used to tell this to Indians when they were irritated by Pakistani support to Terrorist groups.
That is why if you have power to influence someone for good and you ignore it, it usually comes back to bite you. America had the influence of helping out India but chose not to.
Why Krishna sahab is so worry for pakistan something fishy.
India is quite concerned with the recent tug of war between Pakistan and US and rightly so as effects of any big conflict would spill over to this country as well as the whole region. Pakistan can make a big difference if it shuns its fatal attraction towards the strategic assets.
What he says is correct -- but I suspect secretly India takes a certain pleasure in seeing the USA/Pakistan relationship fall apart.
@wolfie: It is enough for one to being a think person when they do not see full Clinton tour to Pakistan and just see one indian Official comments and start writting here.
Clinton today completely Ruled out any American attack on Pakistan Specailly Ground attacks as it will not help them out instead it will create more Problems for America not for pakistan. If there was any possibility that Tomohack will solve the problems then they would have done that ages ago. American's are not stupid.
American's are using drones for the last 7 years with Hellfire missiles and killed so many thousands innocent people and childrens and still did not resolve the problem this mean. They have very limited options.
@hhaaaa India's foreign minister is no fool. More then Pakistan's stability he is worried about India. He knows any outbreak of hostilities between US and Pakistan will destabilise the whole region and mess up India's growth story. Thats why the concern. India has dealt with Pakistan for the last 64 years, but any US attack on Pakistan is a completely new scenario, which is dangerous even for India.
@Tahir: When Americans changed their tone against Pakistan now Indian is following American's. Otherwise in last 10 years we have seen on any forum in the world Indian Hindus and indian government official always took oppurtunity and did negative comments against Pakistan.
Now American became soft and so india is trying to show as they are good.
@harkol:
As sweet as it gets!!
US Cheerleading team is right here in our neighborhood.
India should make peace with Pakistan to avoid 'devastating consequences' for people of both countries!!
I think he is actually needling USA. It has always been the one to give Gratuitous advice to India on how it should deal with Pakistan!!! Now, India is only asking US to follow its own advise
That must be sweet for India Foreign office... :)
What a wise and sagacious comment. America are you listening?
Stop beating the drums of war and trying to 'wage war and negotiate' at the same time.
The Taliban and the US should declare a ceasefire for a limited time to get negotiations started and 'give peace a chance'.
My Gawd!!! What a words of great Wisdom came out of Krishna's mouth? No body in the entire world in General and region in Particular, had ever thought about this before. Come on., let's do it what His Highness is saying before we forget this wise advice. Thank you Mr. Krishna. You enlightened the world with such great wisdom. We knew it, Knew , Knew it, that only great minds are only in your country who could come out with such an innovate and unique approach. Americans must listen to it too, and of course Pakistan.
Makes sense Krishna does not want to see Afghanistan be dragged into a war by Pakistan seeking strategic depth in Afghanistan or Americans launching tomahawk cruse missiles ( the ones where a truck driver face could been seen before the missile slammed into the target used in Iraq /Kosovo/ Afghanistan ).
If Pakistan Army is smart it wont mess around with US .. China is no match For US what makes khayani think he can stand up to US about nukes US has 11500 with ICBM.. PAK has less than 100 with no ICBM..
aslo Pak can wage war only for 15 days before it runs out of fuel and ammo US can fight over a month
Point is no one wants war cause .. if there is war .. it would mean mass Pakistani migration of refugees to India/ Afghanistan/ Iran and china..
hence krishna said it right
Pakistan should sit and ‘sort out their differences’ to prevent ‘devastating consequences’ for other countries
we don't want Pakistani refuges on our eastern borders in event of Pakistan-Us war.. which could be started by Pakistan to divert attention for it's support to the haqqani network in Afghanistan..
From outside he shows concern. I am sure from inside he will be happy.
Vienna,21-10-2011 Do not take that Sanna Manassina Krishna so seriously. If you place a Pakistani statement on his table the Gowda will surely read it out at the U.N.General Assembly Session! It is common sense however, Pakistan co-operates with the United States for the good of 180 million Pakistani women and children. They deserve secure future more than the ickety nuclear reactors, what ever you may call them. Thank you for such a interesting and deep advice....we really did not know this...
What a wise and sagacious comment. Pakistan are you listening?
