Legal Customs: ‘My Lord’ must end
The practice of calling justices of the superior court ‘my Lord’ and bowing before them during court proceedings.
LAHORE:
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday observed that the colonial era had ended and now calling judges ‘my Lord’ must also come to an end. The judge was hearing a petition challenging the practice of calling justices of the superior court ‘my Lord’ and bowing before them during court proceedings. The judge also issued notices to the federal and Punjab governments and sought replies within two week over the non-implementation of a presidential order restraining the practice.
