A civil judge has sought a reply from Salmaan Taseer’s widow Amna and their children Shahbaz, Shehryar and Shehrbano for October 21 on a suit filed by Shaan, Sanam and Sara Taseer, the late governor’s children from an earlier marriage.
The petitioners have asked the court to take account of all the moveable and immoveable assets of the deceased and to divide it among his heirs according to Sunni traditions. They claimed that the respondents, as well as former employees and business associates of Taseer, were trying to conceal some assets in order to deprive his legal heirs of their inheritance.
The petition said that Taseer was a very successful businessman who owned assets within and outside Pakistan, including shares in various public and private companies.
The petitioners said they had called on the respondents to make a division of the deceased’s estate in accordance with the law and Sharia, but they had been ignored. “They are being forcibly and unlawfully kept out of possession and enjoyment of their legitimate inheritance shares in the estate of the deceased and pilferage, misappropriation and concealment of the estate of the deceased is continuing,” said the petition. They asked the court to take account of Taseer’s assets, to administer them by decree, to restrain the respondents from concealing assets, and to divide them. They also asked to be allowed to deal with scheduled properties or other parts of the Taseer estate in the same manner as the other legal heirs until the case is decided.

@lightning: Islamic law is what it is, not what you would like it to be. Illegitimate children do not inherit under Islamic law. Do some research before you write things.
Illegitimate children do not inherit under islamic law. and unless something is gifted away in life it comes into the inheritance (otherwise not). also a will under islamic law is only legal upto the disposition of 1/3rd of the deceaseds estate, and if im not wrong, that too only to non-legal heirs, and to legal heirs only if the other legal heirs give their consent.
as for the rest, salman taseer was a muslim so his estate, at least in pakistan, will be dealt with under islamic law, as in pakistan personal law applies in such matter.
Aatish taseer is muslim i heard. he has also mentioned in his book! so plz dont call him non-muslim
@Asad:
He didnt ask to be concieved that way. I think he is entitled to something. either way that is not the issue here. Aatish taseer was never officially acknowledged by his dad and now that he is dead DNA testing would not be easy. However the striking resemblence to Shehryar remains.
I don't care....why am I even reading this....why am I even writing this
Sunni Traditions ??
One beats the bush and the other catches the hare
come on ! its their family matter. stop commenting on it.
If Salman taseer has already named properties or business according to how he liked then the step children should take a step back.. If he has named certain things for his wife only let her be! This is a classic example of siblings fighting over wealth when fathers/mothers pass away! Very very sad Also I believe that Salman taseer wife has been more than a mother to his step kids have they forgotten that?be happy of what you hVe shan sanam and Sara!
Islam does not deny inheritance to illegitimate children, becz being illegitimate is no one's fault. But the point abt believers n non-believers is correct
What a family!
@King Julien you'll have to explain yourself.. because atm your comment makes no sense and sounds rather callous and barbaric given what all has happened to them..
Did salman taseer not make a will ??
Although it is nice to see them demand their rights according to the Sharia, what really amuses me is that keeping inheritance issues aside, the family is outright critical of the very Sharia with which they want their share :)
@King Julien:
Can't agree more. When the Angel of death appears, everthing happens as per SHARIA. By than, its too late. Wish the rest of us understand this and stop being ignorants.
@Nidhi Baku Souami
Some one will come and say "I know the family the youngers are the one who have been robbing the poor elders for decades and now even wont let them have the righful share.
The older siblings should be given their due share. Its their right. Also for the commenters information, as per my limited knowledge of Inheritance rules in Shariah, Aatish cannot get anything from salman Taseers estate because there is a Hadith of Bukhari where Prophet (saw) said that 'a believer cannot inherit from a disbeliever and a disbeliever cannot inherit from a believer'. Furthermore Aatish is not legitimate, there are detailed rules in Sharia for illegitimate children.
Reckon Aatish is Non Muslim. If that be case then the Sharia states: A Non Muslim cannot inherit from a Muslim nor can a Muslim inherit from a Non Muslim.
@Khan:
Don't worry. Neither under Indian laws nor Pakistani laws he is eligible to come in the plays.
Sherhbano has a heart of gold
Does highly educated and civilised people behave like this??
Shehrbano is always right !!
Taseer has also got a "natural" son living in India. He made it big in the print media a few months back. Don't know when will he come into play.
Conveniently, no one remembers Aatish Taseer.
looks like a real life soap story to me
what about Aatish? Does he get something?
Well they are entitled to this. If islamic law is followed then the division would take place without complications.
