KARACHI: The Aziz Bhatti police found the bodies of a couple, identified as Farooq, 60, and Fauzia, 45, from their apartment in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday.

Neighbours called the police after an unpleasant smell started emanating from the couple’s apartment. Officials took the bodies to Jinnah hospital, where doctors revealed that the couple had been murdered five days ago. The autopsy report suggested that they had been strangled to death, the police revealed.

“The bodies were lying on the floor when the police entered the apartment,” said DSP Fakharul Islam, who suspected a domestic dispute or a personal enmity as the reason behind the murders. He said that the couple’s belongings had been left untouched, which is why it was unlikely that the couple had been killed by robbers.

Relatives of the couple, however, refused to acknowledge that the reason behind the killings had anything to do with some sort of personal enmity.

Farooq, who had retired from service, used to work at a private firm while Fauzia lived in their apartment alone. She was Farooq’s third wife and had married him one year ago, after he divorced his second wife, Sumaya.
