Doctor, 4 other political workers shot dead

KARACHI: Five political workers, including a doctor, were shot dead in target killings on Tuesday.

Dr Irfan Sandhiani was sitting in his clinic in Isphahan Town when two men entered, shot him dead and took off on motorcycles. The Al Falah police took the body to Jinnah hospital.

They said that he was a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and in charge of the Muttahida Punjabi-Pukhtoon Organising Committee, unit 7 in Al Falah. He has four children.

“It was a target killing,” confirmed SP Tanveer Alam Odho. “They sprayed him with bullets.”

Pakistan Medical Association’s Idrees Edhi demanded the government provide medical practitioners security. “The government has failed to provide security to doctors,” he said.

Lyari gang war surfaces

This was not the only killing reported on Tuesday. Lyari gangster Razzaq Commando’s brother Jalil was found dead. He was abducted along with his two nephews Hasan and Haider, from Chakiwara Monday night, police sources said. Eidgah police quoted residents as saying that the body was thrown from a moving vehicle early Tuesday morning.

SHO Hasan Haider believes Jalil was killed in reaction to the targeting of two Lyari Peoples Peace Committee members a day earlier. The bodies of Abdul Sattar alias Tipu and Abdul Salam alias Salamoo were found wrapped in a cloth from a school in Mawach Goth. The Eidgah police said they were tortured. Two of Lyari gangster Ghafar Zikri’s friends have been nominated in the FIR. Razzaq Commando’s nephews are still missing.

Also on Tuesday, two unidentified motorcycle riders shot and killed Amjad, 30, and his friend Fayyaz alias Kala in front of Lasania Restaurant on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Shahrae Faisal police.

The two men were in their car when they were attacked. Amjad died on the spot and Fayyaz in hospital, rescue workers said.

SP Tanveer Alam Odho said this incident was a target killing. Both men were residents of Kehkashan Society in Al Falah and activists of the Punjabi Pukhtoon Ittehad.

Amjad was its president in Shah Faisal and Fayyaz an activist. No FIR was registered till the filing of this report. Fayyaz was a third-year student at Allama Iqbal College and Amjad was leaving for Germany in August, police said.

As news of the killing spread, Kehkashan, Green Town and Millat Town shut down in fear.

An ex-policeman and former member of the MQM (H) was killed in the jurisdiction of Orangi on Tuesday. Shahzad Hafeez was killed early Tuesday in Mujahidabad, Orangi Town Sector 6E in front of his home. He was the father of two children.

In unrelated news, a 30-year-old man identified as Ali Muhammad Pirzada, was killed in Machar Colony by three brothers Faizullah, Amanullah and Niazullah. According to the Docks police, the incident occurred at Khushal Khan Khattak Chowk. FIR No 266/10 was lodged against the three men and the motive was said to be a personal enmity.

In Mochko limits, the body of a man identified as Ayub Khan was found from Khyber Chowk. According to the police, he hailed from Tank and had moved to Karachi a few months back.

He used to live alone and worked for daily wages. The police suspect that an enmity in his hometown was the cause.

A security guard identified as Haji Gul Muhammad shot himself dead by mistake also on Tuesday. The police took the body to Jinnah hospital.
