ISLAMABAD: The judicial inquiry commission tasked to probe allegations of political intervention in the investigation of the multi-billion National Insurance Company Limited scam referred the matter to the chief justice on Monday. The commission headed by Justice Ghulam Rabbani recorded the statements of journalists of two English dailies, who had reported on the politically-motivated suspension of former lead investigator Zafar Qureshi. They stated that they stand by their stories in affidavits submitted to the commission. Qureshi also submitted an affidavit confirming political victimisation to hinder the investigation. Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Interior Secretary Siddique Akbar submitted counter affidavits to the commission, refuting the claim. The reporters contended they were bound to prove the authenticity of their stories, but they could not be forced to disclose their sources.
