MA students ‘blown away’ during exam

Express July 12, 2010

KARACHI: Strong winds brought down part of the tented canopy covering students sitting their MA exams at the University of Karachi (KU) on Monday.

Examination centres A, B, C and D were set up near Maskan Gate because of a shortage of indoor room. Luckily, no students were hurt when the bamboo poles came crashing down but there was some panic when their answer booklets flew off.

The administration moved the students to examination centres E and F during the exam. The exams scheduled for the next two days will be held at the same venue.

The Meteorological Office has forecast rain. Thousands of private candidates take their exams in the expansive grounds of KU, the city’s largest university. According to the KU management, they rent tents, tables and chairs for these exams. The furniture and arrangements for a single exam costs around Rs2,500,000 to Rs3,000,000.
