KARACHI: The prime minister has issued Rs60 million for the expansion and development of the emergency department at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Federal Secretary for Health Kushnood Lashari said on Monday during a visit to the hospital.

Operation theatres and other units will be linked to the emergency department once the project is completed, Lashari said, who added that the number of beds at the department will also be increased to 150, making it the largest facility of its kind across the country.

The process of verifying local and foreign degrees and certificates is a routine practice that is carried out by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Lashari said as he also visited JPMC’s department of neurosciences.

Later, the federal secretary also met with the director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and visited the emergency ward at the medical institute.
