RAWALPINDI: The Excise and Taxation Office (ETO) Rawalpindi has unearthed a new scam of vehicles being registered using details in files stolen from the Islamabad ETO. Three files were allegedly stolen from the office and sent to Peshawar, Mardan and Rawalpindi for registration of stolen vehicles. A stolen file was presented in ETO Rawalpindi for a vehicle’s registration but when an ETO officer checked and examined the file, the file’s origin was discovered. ETO Officer, Malik Shehzad stated that an FIR had been lodged at Civil Line Police Station while further investigation is underway. Responding to a question, he said, “I do not know how many files were stolen or used earlier for the registration of stolen vehicles.” But, he added, a special team of ETO officials has been assembled to investigate further.
