Dengue in Punjab: Death toll rises to 207

LAHORE: Dengue has claimed the life of one more person, taking the death toll to 207 in Punjab, Express 24/7 reported on Tuesday.

A 24-year-old man succumbed to the virus at Mayo Hospital in Lahore, taking the death toll to 195 in the provincial capital.

A total of 198 new cases have been reported in Punjab, of which 150 are from Lahore.

The number of people affected by the virus in Punjab has now reached 15,500. Out of the total from the province, 13,300 cases have been reported from Lahore.

The Punjab Health Department says 15,260 patients have been discharged after treatment.

According to a report in The Express Tribune, the number of people being diagnosed with dengue every day in Punjab has fallen by 24 per cent over the last three weeks.

Agriculture Secretary Arif Nadeem said that the insecticide spray campaign had succeeded in controlling the mosquito population. He said agriculture and health department experts were monitoring insect populations and checking tyre shops, nurseries and other breeding hot spots.

CM Punjab presides over meeting

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that reforms are being made to curb the Dengue outbreak in the province and they will continue till November 30.

Sharif was chairing a meeting in Lahore to review measures taken against Dengue.

The chief minister said that in order to prevent a future outbreak, town committee chairmen have been instructed to form strategies.

He said that cell separators will also be provided to hospitals in Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi.

Sharif also asked the concerned departments to submit reports regarding cleanliness in different areas.
