142 vehicles for the CM, 7 for crisis management

A recent poll reveals that bureaucracy, ministers, advisors and task forces are using a total of 6,000 cars.

A recent poll reveals that bureaucracy, ministers, advisors and task forces in Punjab are using a total of 6,000 vehicles.

According to a transport poll of the services and general administration department, the agriculture department is using 829 vehicles. The irrigation department is using 747 vehicles, while housing and physical planning is using 490. Chief minister secretariat is using 142 vehicles and the chief minister's inspection team has 14 vehicles in use. Relief and crisis management is using the least number of vehicles, standing at seven.

The Punjab government has to spend two billion rupees annually on the maintenance of these vehicles.

Omer Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Criticise some one is very easy that all they do in past when great musharraf sir was leading the country, they just saw the lal masjid operation but they closed there eye's when a huge amount of arm's recovered from there a number of suicide bomber's was killed there, they do politics’ on afia siddique she was not arrested from Pak they knows that but they claim opposite to it just to blame Mr. Musharraf, if they are working for people's of Pak then why foreign investor's are not coming to Pak as they would in Mr. Musharraf Era???, why pakistani stock market collapsed from 21000 point's to 6000 point's????, why our foreign currency reserve became NIL as it was above 20 Billion when Sir left the govt.??? These are some basic point beside Security, Poverty and Price controlling, if they are a people's elected govt then they must have support of people and controlling security and other issues will not be a big deal for them but they are busy in living and making more luxuries to him because they don't have the PAKISTAN FIRST!!! MAY GOD BLESS US ALL!!!

But our bad luck, opposition is playing the role of "Friendly Opposition"...What does it mean? How irresponsible they are...Still they are behaving their voters as their property. Opposition has become a partner of Government and is fully involved in corruption / exploitation of resources. In fact the democratic process has always been sabotage by these type of leaders and blamed to the dictators. In brief, our leaders are always more responsible in derailing the Democracy.

zeeshan ali | 14 years ago | Reply well what i guess is deomcaracy is the best way to earn money in billion for politician . what we get from deomcracy only inflation of price and decresing of currency value. actually most of the poitician invest money in election when they won they first bring out there investement what they invest in election and than they bring out profit after that times up new investor will be on line so things will be keep going like that we have to think about how we can stop that vote for change and come out and cast ur vote turn out of pakistan voting is 20 percent i think when we stand up and will go out vote things will change

I have worked in one of the provincial secretariats and am convinced that CM Secretariat doesn't need more than ten vehicles. This extra pool of vehicles is used by officials who are not even authorized to use government vehicles. Irony of the system is that officials posted to CM Secretariat misuse the authority and directly involved in "misconduct".

Vahicles being used by the punjab Govt, are being used to run the operatins of the Govt. in this bulk of vehicles, there might be a few, being misused, but as a whole we should be optimistic. We would sure know not to elect PPP next time, but who else. PML(N), or PML(Q), MQM, or as usually, another alliance... The problem is very simple here, these parties will never let anyone else to emerge. I have never cast a vote, the reason being that my vote is meant to choose between two or three thieves. There is no possibility of these thieves letting someone noble to stand in front of them. "Long Live Dictatorship For Pakistan"

Many changes of faces and still no change of fate of the masses. As known in organizational behavior, "Change will always be resisted but resistance to change will only damage. So, for organizations, its recommended to lay off a couple of people and teach the rest a lesson. Change will become acceptable and lessons will be learnt."

Nobody from the rulers has ever thought of improving or providing the basic neccessities of life to the poor - these be the food itself, health, education, clean drinking water. This country does not require Democracy. The so called democratic forces are surely corrupt. One hopes somebody "honest" from the all powerful army of Pakistan comes up and brings all so called corrupt political leaders and bureaucrats, looters and plunderers, to task. Approach very strongly foreign governments to return wealth of these corrupt people kept with them.

Everyone makes mistake and General Ret. made a mistake in March 2007 by removing CJP, that caused him dearly and he paid the prices for it. In precise, his term saw Capital Inflow as compare to all GOVT terms in which we see CAPital Flying out of the country. When the concept was given for the first time, people thought it was impossible, but it was nevertheless implemented. It was a requirement of that time, better than the other alternative ie dictatorship. Over the years man has learned to abuse democracy and as someone aptly said, turned it into a system of "buy the the people, off the people and far the people". The ground realities of today are shouting that we adopt an altogether new system based entirely on merit. 'Meritocracy' is actually more democratic than the democracy of today. It is also fair, nearest to the sterling concept of governance in Islam and a panacea for the ills befalling our country and humanity at large. Humanity needs a break from the rut it has put itself into. Meritocracy is the answer. Meritocracy is not a mere phrase or just another cliche. It is a complete and elaborate system of how the world needs to be managed today to get out of the quagmire of problems it is in. Let Pakistan be the flag bearer of this new system for the world called 'Meritocracy'.

You can witness this that we are unable to construct kalabag dam because we donot need cheep electricity. we canot maintain our railway because we donot want to have an economical travels. Nawaz Sharif, today talks about independence of judiciary, it is a joke, his party attacked the supreme court of Pakistan. He and his family, like many other corrupt politicians, have become very rich at the expense of the people of Pakistan. It is a pity that the same corrupt people are elected over and over again. When musharraf take over the shareef government,state bank of pakistan had not even a penny to give the sallary of govt. officers. The biggest problem in the Governance structure of Pakistan is the lack of maturity and vision. Owning a country with heart and soul is the key of sucess. Commencing from Dictators to civilians your bureacracy is the key actor gering country in reverse. Any political and civilian government is mere a tool in the hands of bureacracy and that is the main actor impeding service delivery.The most sad element of our 10 decades history is the dearth and paucity of clear thoughts and future course of action. Performance of democracy in the west is quite evident. SO these so called democrates and dictators should come up with the single line of future course of action.

Govt creates issues itself just to keep people busy one after one. Just before this govt electricity was not an issue. How its possible that requirement has been increased to double or triple within a year. Even now Total requirement 14000 MW We are producing 12000 MW Short fall is 2000 MW when we are producing 80 to 85% of our requirement why power is off more then 3 to 4 hours. These figures show it's all drama.

The present assemblies are filled with those who have been rejected by 60% to 70% people of Pakistan and who claim to be representative of all 180 million people of the country. All those who are in assemblies and senate are those who spent millions of rupees to get tickets and to contest and win election. They must be thinking of getting their money back with profits at the first then how can Pakistan be first for them?

Waseem Ashraf | 14 years ago | Reply To some extent agreed with Mr. Fahad, could it be possible for you to visit CM secretariats in Lahore these are 3 in number (officially), his loyal servants - not public servants are using all vehicles and enjoying. I wish you may spend two hours at shopping malls in Lahore most of them are being used by Begmat as Sahibs are sleeping at home. We are not saying that all vehicles are used by CM, but it is on his behalf and for what purpose it is used - one must know. I want to share a story. I was working in Balochistan, underdeveloped province - Chief secretary announced no official vehicle will be used for personal affairs, you know many vehicles were seized along with relatives of ministers and secretaries while using official vehicles. It was possible when CS left all other work and started monitoring vehicles movement. Do we need such vigilence? or an eye. If yes then we should amend our attitude, if we have moral courage then we have to be public servant not the servant of "king" only. We have to think about as nation not individual.

Who ever has gotten a chance he has plundered and robbed Pakistan and its people. No one has worked for the betterment of the people be it the chaudhri's, the sardar, the wadera's or the Khan's. Each and everyone core agenda has been rob Pakistan to its core and leave. If I could describe all our leaders in the leaders in the last 20 years or so (from the time I could understand whats going on) in 3 words; they would be, "ALL ARE THEIVES" (sub chore hain).

You can not say that these vehicles are used by CM, these are under the use for public service under different departmental works to run the government machinery. It is funny, how information can be misinterpreted and the style of statement can dilute the mind of the people.

They have posted there friends and family members at the key posts responsible for accountability, and hence there is no one to ask them about their deeds. All the people on top are incapable of running their offices, one thing which i like the most of the Musharaf Regime is that, this man placed the best people of the respective fields on top such as Atta-ur-rehman.

For me it is more important to have facilities for cirsis management unit, rather than to CM or other officials. Rulers are busy in their " business of politicis " and finding way to perpetuate their rule. People are paying taxes directly or indirectly for them. If we review the performance of the government, then it is zero, I question to proponents of Democracy, who say in any shape it is better than dictatorship. Who defines dictatorship in our country? the politicians who have fake degrees and no sense of responsibility. What about ditatorial germs in party leaderships in our country. We are ashamed to have rulers who have put people at the verge of poverty, hunger, lawlessness and misery. Dreamy policy, weak leadership, skeleton institutions have ruined the country. Look at susti roti scam, Lahore ring road and other mega projects what is behind that, who is developed? people or ruler? we have to analyze and identify black sheeps and faces to people. Two billion is spent on vehicle maintenance - what an irony. Who will decide, we people and we have to do before its too late.

Mr. Sharif boasts about being called and known as the Khadim-e-Aalaa and tells everyone that the Khilafat-e-Rashida is his role model of governance. Why doesn't he then walk the roads like Abu Bakar, Umar, Usman and Ali did??

Nabeel Aziz | 14 years ago | Reply Well, we all know how corrupt they (most politicians, civil servants etc) are, but our nation vote them consistantly so that they can do corruption and fill their local and foreign bank accounts. They keep people illiterate so that the chodaries and waderas can win again and again and people have no depth to judge them. How can people (especially punjab and sindh) elect same parties with a history of more than two governmnet failures and history full of corruption. @Bashir Hameed: Wow, what a explanation by you. kindly I don't agree. Security is important but it does not require huge number of vehicles for that. There are other intelligent means of security in this world. Consistancy is crucial but with these politicians in power, common man will be under more debt with low quality of life and country is on the brink of failure. Time for change(not just face change) is due but how it will come I don't know. People are suffering out there due to lack of facilities. I hope things will change but forecast is foggy.

Their performance can be compared with officials of Somalia, Ghana and other extremely disadvantaged and failed countries. If you really feel the pain the go vote on election day. Don't sit at home and watch indian movies, go and do your part to make a change. VOTE FOR PEOPLE NOT PARTIES. Sadly said, this is where we have to start. There is not going to be sudden daylight but gradual one just like everything else.

Khawaja Sajjad Hussain | 14 years ago | Reply Its better to use executive buses or 20 seater shuttel for all the MNAs or MPAs or executives including CM, maximum if govt want to give protocol to them, further for agriculture and other public departments need the jeeps and big vehicles like 4x4 due to their remote visits. i think that for irrigation 747, and 829 for agriclutre are enough if govt officials use them properly, not for their personal work. but we forget that normally even in private org. people use their official vhicles for their personal reasons, even every one is also like to do this if he or she authorized... isn't....

Most people aren't aware that Punjab Govt is pumping billions into Public Private Partnerships, for instance, the Punjab AgriMarketing company, that have done nothing except for eating public funds. And did anyone hear about Punjab Govt. funding a terrorist nursery? Well, let the nation enjoy the joys of democracy. They cursed Musharraf in the past.

We have done this mistake too many times now.let the political dispensation complete its tenure after they have been elected not taken over by a coup.let's not forget the number of cavalcades that had to run for the security of military dictator and his cronies.its only been two-three years since the system has been put to place.lastly the province of punjab is the most populous provice of the country and it has to be run effectively we need to have adequate facillities and cars are an affective means of mobilization.surely chairmans of task forces all over the world are given priveleges they come with the post.Hence its a needless discussion as we should wake up to the reality that security is essential especially when BB got brutally assissinated and the goverment is under intense pressure to make peace and calm. We should accept reality rather than assent to the mistakes we have made in pastand not derail the system.

Had Punjab shown financial dicipline, the centre government would have automatically falled. Their corrupt deeds ideally support each other in the name of democracy. The losses Pakistan is likely to suffer in the name of Shaheed Bhutto and Sharif Brothers loyalty to Pakistan by the end of 5 years will be so clossal that this country will will not be able to recover in next 10 year. What a price in the name of DEMOCRACY?
