Quaid Trophy: HBL collapse to hand Sialkot win

WAPDA register comfortable victory over Abbottabad in Quaid Trophy.

Sialkot produced a superb bowling performance to bowl out HBL for just 128 as the bankers completely lost their way in pursuit of a victory target of 188 on the final day of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match.

Fast-bowler Prince Abbas picked up three wickets, with only Imran Farhat (25) and Farhan Iqbal (29) offering resistance.

Earlier, resuming on 61 for seven, Sialkot were bundled out for just 83 as Danish Kaneria picked up a six-wicket haul, while Abdur Rehman snared four scalps.

Abbottabad downed

Elsewhere, Wapda recorded a convincing 10-wicket win over Abbottabad as they chased down 60 to seal the victory. Abbottabad resumed on 90 for five but lost their remaining wickets for the addition of only 35 runs. Zulfiqar Babar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of four for 30.

Amin, Alam, Akmal score tons

NBP did well to draw their match against Rawalpindi after having been dismissed for just 153 on the first day of the game. Responding to Rawalpindi’s 348, NBP fought back well to amass 482 for eight in their second-innings, thanks to a superb batting display by Test discards Umar Amin (131), Fawad Alam (141) and Kamran Akmal (139), who did their chances for a recall into the national team no harm. Nasir Malik snared three wickets for the hosts, who finished the day on 52 for one.

PIA-Islamabad match ends in draw

Meanwhile, PIA left themselves little time to eke out a win against Islamabad as the match petered out into a tame draw. Responding to the visitors’ 423 for five in the first innings, Islamabad resumed on 256 for five and were all out for 281 with Anwar Ali picking up a five-wicket haul.

PIA then declared their second-innings closed on 157 for three to give the hosts a victory target of 300. Islamabad finished the day on 71 for one with Umair Khan remaining unbeaten on 50.
