In a first for the garrison city, sixty masked men carrying iron rods barged into a girls’ school in Rawalpindi and thrashed students and female teachers on Friday.
The gang of miscreants also warned the inmates at the MC Model Girls High School in Satellite Town to “dress modestly and wear hijabs” or face the music, eyewitnesses said.
Fear gripped the area following the attack and only 25 of the 400 students studying in the college were present on Saturday. The school employs 30 female teachers.
Attendance in other educational institutions also remained low. After hearing about the attack, all schools in the city shut down, an official of the Rawalpindi District Administration (RDA) told The Express Tribune.
A student of the girls’ school managed to inform the administration of the nearby boys’ high school of the attack. “[However,] the armed gang was so powerful that we could not rescue our teachers and colleagues over there,” Noail Javed, a grade 10 student, said.
In-charge of MC High Schools in Rawalpindi issued a notification to the heads of all girls’ schools to take pre-emptive measures to avoid such incidents in future. According to the notification, a gang comprising 60 to 70 miscreants entered into the school from a gate that was “strangely open”.
All the MC school heads were assigned the responsibility of protecting the students by the notification. A school headmistress wishing not to be named said, “How is it possible for us to protect the students from such elements. The city administration should review its security plan.”
The notification also suggested that the heads should not inform the students about the situation, so that they are not alarmed into skipping school. “Police is investigating the matter,” the notification said. Following the notification, the heads of the schools also shared the numbers of relevant police stations with the teachers in case of any untoward situation in future.
Asjad Ali, a student of class 9 at the nearby boys’ high school, said that his younger brother Awais, a student of grade 5, was also among those who were brutally beaten by the miscreants with iron rods. “The police did not come,” he said.
A police official of the New Town Police Station, asking for anonymity, told The Express Tribune, “We were under strict instructions to do nothing.”
District Education Officer Qazi Zahoor and Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed were not immediately available for comments.

@Tariq Shah: Well said!!
@Sandra Bell Islam is a peaceful religion?! OK if you say so. I'm just amazed how whenever people refer to Islam they have to add "peaceful religion" just so that the rest of us Kuffars know it is a peaceful religion. All of us Kuffars know how peaceful it is, muslims are the kindest, most forgiving, caring, loving people out there. They love us kuffars no matter what religion we belong to. They don't have superiority complex like the rest of us kuffars. This is to all Kuffars, learn to be like muslims, Allah's chosen people.
@JJ: And I bet you are a man. It's thick-headed thinking like yours that will never allow this religion to progress. I can't believe some of the crap I am reading in these comments.
@Xurmat Xara: this is a very good step?? May Allah have mercy on you. Do you want your daughter or sister to get beaten with iron rods by strange men when she is at school, because she doesn't have a hijab or niqab on? Even animals have rights not to be abused or hit unjustly, what about people? Do you hit everyone you morally disagree with?
Violence is our lowest state. May Allah grant hidaya to all of you that believe that this was "right" or "justified" and may Allah have mercy on all of us. Ameen.
Extremely disappointed with the reasoning of those who either outright or tacitly support the violence against the school girls. Where do you get off telling anyone how they live their life? The beauty of Islam is that it provides a great deal of latitude within which one can live ones life while traveling ever closer toward God. It shouldn't matter what the girls were wearing - Niqab, Hijab, Shalwar Qameez, Jeans and a Tee shirt or even a skirt and blouse - if you are the type of individual that cannot keep your eyes lowered and feel you have to resort to violence just because you believe differently, then you do not deserve to live free in any society.
Twenty years ago, there was peace & tranquility in Pakistan. People were more human. Women felt secure and were able to go out and do chores alone. But now Pakistan has become a corrupt and violent place. Killing someone in the name of Islam is becoming common. And if someone disagrees with one’s opinion or way of life then he/she should be killed as well. Women don’t feel secure any more. Children are getting kidnaped and their schools are blasted with bombs. All this is done in the name of Islam.
Islam that was practiced by our forefathers was definitely not the one that is being preached today. Is it that our forefathers knew nothing about Islam and that is way there was peace then, or is it that we have twisted Islam for personal gains?
@RIAZ: Islam has not emphasized hijab it has emphasized modesty ... and i am pretty sure that these poor girls weren't in bikini tops at the time in school.
Islam has emphasized on Hijab and should stricly followed this order but who are these,who are exploiting islam for there own interest.That time they did not follow islam by entering girls school.
If what you preach is better than what I do then first learn to become a better human being. Then I may follow your version of my religion. Don’t barrage into girls schools with your faces covered and try to thrust your version of religion on them. Before asking women to do hijab, you need to learn to lower your gaze.
You think you are Muslim. Well I have a surprise for you as well as your imams. None of you can be considered a Muslim until you all learn to respect other humans (regardless of their religion) – that is what we learn from our beloved prophet – whose name is being belittled by you and your Imams.
This is not Islam. This is animalistic misogyny. Unacceptable. These type of people turn the youth away from islam.
These lunatics have nothing to do with Islam. If anything they are psychatrically unstable people really needind their heads examined. To those supporting their actions, Islam would never allow such things to happen. This is precisely the reason that youth turn waya from Islam. Islam appels people to understand. It appeals to reason. It does not ask men to become despots. These people sincerely disfigure Islam.
My heart is under strict instructions not to comment on this article and I know the source too which gave these instruction,Its my mind.My mind allows my heart to ask only one question.So,here is the question,Islam came to abolish the centuries old inhuman customs and traditions of dark ages,it was the most revolutionary religion of the day causing millions to convert to it so quickly because people felt safe and their livelihood secure under its umbrella.To learn and to acquire knowledge was the first command,to shun the taboos of dark ages was first order.Then,what happened that muslims of today want to do quite the opposite of all those teachings?It needs very urgent and deep research to find and redress the true causes of downfall so that something is done to come out of this "quick-sand of reverse events" that are devouring muslim"s Islamic culture fast.
If they are spreading good things and urging young generations of our society to dress modestly, why don't they come unmasked. After all they are giving good guidance.
Why they are destroying schools, kidnapping teachers, expelling Ahmedis from schools, very soon they will issue religious diction agaisnt Shia, Bravelvi, Deobandis, Nasbandis and other sects living in the society.
Mussarat
@Redemption: agreed my lab was my best friend and you couldn't attack anyone with a rod before him
@Balochistan: good news according to dawn pakistan they didnt attack anyone bad news they were shutting down shops schools etc as a strike against conviction of qadri the killer of salman taseer
@Aussie Kim:
Aww cmon.... Dogs aren't this bad...
@JJ: Where does the segregation of sexes come from anyway?
Last i remember there is no segregation in Macca, even during Hajj...
vary good news........want some more....
Only in Pakistan!
I would say: The Thinking was right: "“dress modestly and wear hijabs”" But The Way was wrong: " thrashing and steel rods "
@JJ: This is so retarded… Who has made you the bearer of (Islamic) justice? Is Pakistan not a nation that is governed by its laws? Basically Islamic laws… Who gives theses goons (and for that reason you) the power to impose your laws. Islam is a religion of PEACE! Where is peace in beating up little girls with rods? You talk about Islam and you do not even know the basic tenants of Islam... One, being a law abiding citizen even if you live in a non-Islamic country. Your kind keep throwing the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) left right and center yet you do not know what he preached!
Save yourself from hellfire and start obeying Allah SWT. Do not distort the religion he sent to us with your perverted culture! Remember Islam is the most modern religion of all… Our Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) brought a revolution that brought social & economic justice for all. YES FOR ALL! He is rahamat-ullill-alameen and not rahamat-ullill-muslameen!
Dark chapters in islamic history in the shape of Bani Ummayya, Bani Abbas, then Abdul Wahab Najdi, and now in the present era their followers the taliban and its affiliated groups like sipah e sahaba, lashkar e jhangvi etc. these r the people who r anti education, anti humanity. believes in killing and torture only. they don't ve any logic and those who r illogical always speak with sword. Allah's Curse on these barbarians.
when the west say that islam spread with the tip of sword, then how you can deny. these miscreants are working on the same agenda, i.e to prove that the west is right. when u r illogical then u speak with weapon. this is ur reality. down with taliban.
@JJ: go to afghanistan n leave pakistan alone u psycho
@Usman: " We idolise our military"
Really? Please speak for yourself not the whole country. Islam EXPLICITLY forbade idol-worship and most people are NOT going to idolise military or anyone else.
they were wearing masks as they themselves were ashamed of the act they were doing, sham to all fundamentalists who adopt such crimnal acts to preach Islam. I should say they are the most ignorant elements of society and they should learn about Islam first before they preach.
I don't know why the politics and religion are played at expense of girls and women in the Muslim Countries and yet they call themselves Muslims... shame, shame, shame. I feel angry, shame, helpless and frustrated.
Another Lal Masjid type scenario is in the making :(
The male relatives of these women and girls must fight against the terrorists who are attacking. The men of their families must defend their wives and daughters from violence or they are not men.
@Maddy Khan: Why the preoccupation with girls my friend. First I do not agree that this is according to Sharia and the teaching of our beloved Prophet. Even then can you please confirm the reason for our so called religious people, who i refer to as obscurantists, obsession with females. Can Maddy Khan or someone else please explain this, is it because of sexual inadequacy or some other problem.
@JJ: i will only say to condone this behavior is tantamount to being non compliant to Sharia, JJ has done no service to Islam or to our beloved Prophet and has once again used a great religion to support his own political agenda. May I say an attempt to condone a serious crime in the name of Islam. May I ask why is it that our so called religious people are so obsessed with women and their clothes is it sexual depravity or some other problem.
@Jameel: Thank you for uploading the news clip. The most disturbing part is that local police has refused to register a case against the miscreants so far but probably waiting for killing of innocent children to take place. That speaks volumes that how much the law enforcing agencies fear these fanatics and what future lies ahead of the country.
@gk: Dear Sir, You have got 219 hits and JJ has 49 hits.It shows nearly quarter of people are of JJ's mentality.I think it is a high percentage.Unless and until people like you unite and do something to change such mentality,future of Pakistan looks bleak.
@gk: I think u didn't Get JJ's sarcasm there!
@Maddy Khan: What point is there for so many males to enter a GIRL's school;
In a girl's school they may make themselves comfortable by relaxing Purdah restrictions.
Islam allows that.
@Jameel:
I watched the news clip. Absolutely reduced me to tears. Imagine the terror inflicted on 5-6 year old school girls and boys. Where is the Khadim-e-Aala? Where is Hanif Abbasi? Do they even feel slightly ashamed when they appear on TV and talk about the rule of law? Punish them with your votes in the next election for allowing all this to happen.
First lets remove the islamic from our country,s name. Drop the objective resolution.
@KolachiMom: You know a couple of months back, you had mentioned in another blog related to the Lahore art gallery owner being beaten up for fahashi by the SHO " Soon they’ll be beating us if we’re not wearing burqas!"
Your words have proved prophetic.
Pakistan is going down a highly violent and intolerant path. As your neighbour, I worry for all my Pak sisters. If going to school becomes such a scary occurrence even in a place like Pindi, how will the next generation of Pak women fulfill their potential?
A police official of the New Town Police Station, asking for anonymity, told The Express Tribune, “We were under strict instructions to do nothing.”
This is a far-reaching sentence that can have serious implications.
@JJ: does beating girls with iron rods qualify as being islamic and how come people who came in to beat those girls (which islam strictly condemns) qualify as true muslims????????
All such truble makers should be shot dead on the spot without any questions asked.
News with Talat covered this on Monday. Must see.
Watch News Night With Talat Kudos to Express Tribune for covering this incident which most news papers ignored.
Out of 170 millions sheeps, only bunch of miscreants knew what they were doing was completely Islamic. Irony of my land!
@Maddy Khan, JJ and Simple Request. You'll get your chance guys. Tell you what: why don't you guys form a separate state in Afghanistan called Fundoostan. Go live in that state with your Taliban and Al-Qaeda Brethren. You can be happy in your uneducated squalor beating up your women and living the life of a 7th century Bedouin. If you don't create trouble for us we'll let you live. Otherwise we'll take turns nuking you.
@Aussie Kim: I agree with R S JOHAR. Dogs are nobel animals. They give unconditional love and are loyal and faithful to their owners and do not attack their fellows for being immodestly dressed. It is not right to compare these people with dogs.
In fact to compare these goons to ANY animal is an insult - to animals, who are far more nobel than these people.
Of all the animals in the animal kingdom, humans alone are capable of being the most illogical, heartless and cruel.
Also, you only have to look at Western progression in science and medicine (amongst other things) that we are winning constantly, because we don't allow this kind of thing to happen. Anyone can come and practice any faith they like, and we are accommodating of that for the most part. We aren't interested what your creed, colour or gender is, we want democractic, humane progression with tolerance and acceptance for all
To the few weirdos who supported this action: This is a govt school where girls of lower middle-class families get education. Majority are young children less than 13 years of age, with max age being 16. Given their bacgkround they are quite modestly dressed anyway. Do you seriously support forcing young children to wear burqa via using iron rods?? If you have to support this craziness due to your low intellect and narrow-mindedness, then at least don't use the good name of Islam to do so...
These people were cowards obviously, why else would they hide their face? unless they started wearing niqabs like women.
Pakistan will be destroyed from inside if these criminals are not arrested, then these Taliban will become bold and start taking over society by force, stand up now, or forever become their slaves.
I am in the US and feel sorry for how our own shaitan are destroying our country, its not jews, or Indians, or Americans, but our own fitna mullahs, wish we could do what Attaturk did and destroy all the Mullahs, we would have peace then,.
If these mullahs start hurting regular people, then regular people should also come out and start hunting any man with a long beard, start killing bearded men and hijabi women.
this means the idiots touched the girls and the female teachers so is that something normal for ppl who claim to be the holders of the torch of the greater Moral?
I am a proud Pakistani, a Muslim, and a lady. God give me the strength and presence of mind to stand up for my beliefs in the face of hardship, oppression and cruelty from filth like these men. Prayers for the girls who had to go through such a sickening ordeal. And I hope that if ever such a moment comes in my life, that I have the courage to take whatever is coming my way without betraying my principles and moral code that is my religion. Ameen.
I apologize if my English is not as great as i see so many people have responded here
Seriously guys, are we implimenting islam in our country ? Modesity in dress is completely upto you, All those who were thrashing these girls have no idea what is happening in their own houses, i can bet these people who were present there at girls school didn't offer the prayer which is a "MUST" in religion, I'm surprised that our country has already going through a lot of problems and corrupt politicians ( We can't even select a right person as our prime minister and we are trying to impliment the Best Religion on ourselves ) Take a look at our daily lives, we lie everyday, probably every hour we do something which is totally against islam and Sharia
Please do correct your home before stepping outside Please correct yourself before correcting others
@Aussie Kim: I would like to correct your last line- Extremists are not men- they are lower than dogs. Kim, mostly all normal dogs are faithful to humans, so comparing these monsters would be degrading the dogs. The last may be amended as- They are lower than MAD DOGS.
Pakistan is one savage country. Children are beaten by deluded religious freaks and the police do nothing.
everybody has a right to their beliefs but they should stop trying to force others to do the same all religions are make believe as science has proved so people should stop acting like cave men and try to improve there existance by being happy kind and loving not nasty,evil and vengefull then the world could live in harmony,sadly the only way this could happen is to remove the evil people who commit such awfull crimes like these from the planet !
@Ali Khan: The sad, shocking truth is that Pakistan has indeed become a nation of religious maniacs. Chilling, but confirmed in poll after poll.
vailant Ghazis....
Now I am going to comment in a very unpopular way...but if these girls don't dress properly out of Islamic values or shame...then it might be the only solution to enforce a dress code with a bit pressure. Pakistan is degenerating at a fast rate. Corruption, rape, high inflation, bad governance...and this is all connected. The people seem to think that success comes by coping the western values.....but they forgot that Islam was victorious when we implemented Allahs laws...not now with democracies hypocraty...
Modesty is commanded in Christianity as well as Islam. Modesty should be defined and enforced, however, only by loved ones. A parent or guardian who has faithfully fed, clothed, encouraged, and taught a child has earned the right to determine what is modest, and has earned the right to apply balanced disciplinary action when the rules of the parents' home are disobeyed.
Religious leaders may have the right to teach definitions of modesty, but have no physical enforcement rights, unless they are the ones providing food, clothing, and nurture.
Masked strangers have no such rights at all. They have simply applied force to try to compel others to their will, and will one day find themselves facing superior force - in this world or the next.
@simple_request: What is your idea of proper Islamic dress and code??...I presume God told you about it at the last Jumma prayers...
@Sindhi-Topi: Who's Sharia???
@Maddy Khan: Dont preach your version of Islam, you're not God..
Hmm... what I'd really like to know is why is this incident not being reported anywhere on other electronic/print media? So far I've seen only one other newspaper reporting this. Have people become accustomed to these type of bullying/intimidation incidents?
This is barbaric, totally and utterly unacceptable in what is supposed to be a tolerant and accommodating 21st century where everyone should have basic human rights, such as the right to whatever religious practice they decide without the fear of reprisals from fanatical, over-zealous lunatics enforcing their twisted version of a peaceful faith on those who don't believe or believe something different. Utterly despicable.
TRASH ... seems to be simply an ACT of making the WROLD believe that Pakistanis are Militants ... where Govt. is weak and Militants are strong ,.... Absolutely Crap!!!1
Utterly tragic state of affairs in this country failure of society day by day .. more than the failure of state which cannot be greater than the sum of its parts!
A police official of the New Town Police Station, asking for anonymity, told The Express Tribune, “We were under strict instructions to do nothing.”
Rejoice, Shariah Rule is around the corner. The police are busy ushering it in.
@JJ
The girls must be covered from head to toe and there must be segregation of sexes.
A. The girls must be covered from head to toe injunction applies only if they are in mixed company. This was a GIRLS school with LADY teachers. I hope you know what that means.
B. For educational institutions the standards are set by Al Azhar University of Egypt. This Islamic University has banned the Hijab on campus.
C. Coming to there must be segregation of sexes, did you notice the girls were minding their business in a girls school. It was the 'soldiers of Islam' who violated the 'segregation'. Shall we stone the violators to death?
Can you see the issues now?
These kind of people are the enemies of Islam they must be punished....
@Maddy Khan: religion cannot be limited to confined views. Please define what Islam is in totality. Women in Pakistan dress modestly, and specially in the locality where the attack took place. we unfortunately have started arabizing religion, our dress displays modesty, but we now put forth that Suadi type dress in which women eyes can only be seen is Islamic dress. Even during the days of the Caliphs the women in the Levant covered their heads while those in the Middle East just showed their eyes, this was associated more with culture than Islamic precepts.Religion provides apt guidance and is assimilative of cultures as religion is absorbtive in nature, as seen in Indian history in which different Islamic sects since centuries are living in the same abode. please do support baton wielding men in the name of religion, it would do nothing but bring in destruction. God bless Pakistan
Shariat is the answer !! We need Sharia NOW !!!!
@Maddy Khan @JJ:
HAHAHAHA. Are you absolutely serious? You have no right to say who we study with and how we dress. What's WRONG with this? Are you serious? There is SO much wrong with this. You don't randomly go to a girls school and beat women with rods. I'm pretty sure that's in the Quran. Also, the I'm pretty sure the school uniform is modest enough and covers the entire body. No one has any right to beat up innocent people. Even Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh), did not beat up people when they did not do what he preached. Preach, yes. If they listen, good for you. if they don't, LEAVE THEM ALONE. Do not shove your thoughts down their throats. Your mentality is what's wrong here.
Cheers
Religion & State should never have been mixed by Zia ul Haq. Results are right in front of us.
No we do not want an Islamic state. We want a secular state fullstop
Though this is something Islamic but these people are not supposed to punish people on ther own. they are for sure not the right people and only creating panic in society and making people against Islam and Ulema e Haq. Wish such people be punished for the dirty acts they do. If they are so worried about the Islamic Culture thn they should atleast learn properly what they should and shouldn't do on ther own.
Shocked to hear of the brutality! Who do these men think they are to go about laying a finger on children and students? NO Religion and NO law allows that. As a parent to a daughter myself, I would kill the man who even touches my daughter! If any one has a problem with the way a minor is dressing then tell the girl's parents your concern.
No reports anywhere else about this incident raised my eyebrow over its authenticity and specially the way it was reported. I wish someone can verify and share the complete story.
Wear hijab.Those ordering it, first broke the girls' purdah by entering an all girls campus and then asked them to go for purdah.Not simple and not difficult to catch the people behind those 60-70 miscreants.But......Hope it is not preparation of another Lal Masjid.
@Khan: The men should join in too you know... To support their wives, sisters and daughters. And, to show these sickos that REAL men stand BY their women, not beat them into submission.
If this was the real face of Islam, I would have converted to a different religion long time ago. Thank God it is not. This sick mentality has taken over the majority of the populace. Unless, there is a major paradigm shift in the people's mind set, the path set by Ge.Zia-ul-Haq is going to lead Pakistan straight to Hell. These jokers who pretend to know the Holy Quran, and tell others to read it, should read it themselves. God clearly states in the Quran, that there is no compulsion in religion.
All I have been preached about Islam, as a child, as it being a great religions which has justice, respect for others, liberalism, is being told to me is false. Now, I am told over and over again, with comments of these and other issues that Islam is insecure religion and wants to possess everything by force, not by humility and character which was presented by Prophet Mohammad.
what is ur definition of Islamic? and who has given you and these criminals an authority to decide what is Islamic and Islamic? does Islam allow entering a female school and attack innocent children? this is not Islam this is jahilyat once propagated by Abu jehl. The Islam of Holy prophet(PBUH) is peace loving and it teaches people to invite others towards the way of lord through wisdom and knowledge.
the plague of religion has destroyed our economy, our culture our peace of mind and our society. Yes the entire world hates us. There is Islam in Gulf, there is Islam in Iran, there is Islam in far-east but i don't see much trouble there. they practicing their faith as well as they are progressing but the breed of Islam i see in Pakistan is worst then Nazism. It is becoming a danger for regional and global peace. I wish if i could run far away from these mentally and spiritually sick people :(
Its a sin to be born as a female in Pakistan, I pity them really.
JJ - ...saudi is not rich because of shariah..its rich because of something called....oil....apparently its very valuable.. @maddy khan - women are supposed to dress 'modestly' in islam....there is no mention of a full-body covering or even ninja headgear...that you like to call a hijab....even in the prophet's (PBUH) lifetime...women werent obligated to cover their heads....learn to differentiate between culture and religion pls..
btw....these locos barging into a girls...doesnt that violate the mehram and na-mehram thing?....shouldn't you talk a little bit about that too?
@Tanya: These bearded thugs don't want grils to be educated as educated grils don't give birth to Taliban. To keep the supply of next generation of Taliban there should be lots of uneducated and ignorant mothers available.
If you have the guts then show them. All the working women, school and college girls and their supporters should come out on streets and protest against such people. People should be allowed to preach their ideas but should not be allowed to force them.
@SW: You don't need to struggle to coming up with numbers. Just see the Pew research poll. It shows that over 80% of Pakistanis want an Islamic state with strict Islamic laws like cutting off hands, stoning to death, killing apostates etc.
As you conclude correctly, fundamentalist anachronistic edicts are supported by over 80% of Pakistanis.
@Alsahdiq:
"Islam never spread by coercion, extortion, violence or anything ugly like that."
Then you would agree that blasphemy and apostasy laws must be eliminated in Pakistan? If someone in Pakistan does not want to be a Muslim, would you be for or against imposing Jazia tax on him?
@Dan: Pak Army is not like the British and the American armies, where soldiers are social misfits and are not respected in their societies. We idolise our military, and we know who are those poeple who are always trying to tarnish it's image. Try as you might, you can't pull a 'Libya' on us.
I dont understand how u can condone such an act on basis of the fact that Quran tells u to dress modestly. Of course it does but it doesn't give free license to self claimed Muslims to go and beat-up anyone who they think doesn't do it!! Ridiculous, and where does Islam tells muslims to hide their identity by wearing masks?? a ridiculous tradition of arabian bandits! Do these Muslims know how unlawful it is in Islam to hide your identity!..
JJ and all ppl like JJ: THan don't protest when countries like France ban the hijab and forcefully order women to remove their head scarves. That's their right in the west to 'enforce' the dress code they feel is 'right'.
I think it is time Pakistan dropped the pretense and embraced "Sharia". I think the only form of governance that will work there is an Islamic one. Eye for an eye and so on... Even if Islamic education doesn't boost the economy, you can ask the Saudis to fund you.
I guess JJ was just being sarcastic though Maddy K seems to be supporting such people.
The "miscreants" should also go into GHQ and beat up the Army people with iron rods for not wearing Islamic dress and beard.
Somalia finally tarting to wake up: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/10/world/africa/in-rare-rally-somalis-protest-shabab.html?_r=1&hp. When will the rational people of Pakistan wake up and take to the streets in protest? How many more of your daughters beaten, your leaders slaughtered, your husbands, sons and fathers butchered by these maniacs before you act? How much more will it take for you to realize that these violent savages and their defenders in your midst are the scourge of humanity and the enemy of modern civilization? It doesn't matter what they call themselves, or that they cloak their actions in Islam. See the evil for what it is and defeat it, before it's too late.
Wait Pakistan.. Wait Until I Grow up.
Are you insane? You think it's acceptable for school girls to be beaten by men with iron bars?? Shame on you!! @JJ:
Still, Pakistan has ample time, the country is very young, increase the education budget is strongly recommended.
@Maddy Khan: Can you answer the following questions:
What do you define as "dressing immodestly"?
How do you know that these girls women were dressed "immodestly" (by your definition)?
Was the standard or definition of "immodestly dressed" of these hooligans the same as your definition?
How did these hooligans who entered the school know from beforehand that these women were dressed immodestly and how did you know?
Is it Islamic for these male hooligans to enter a girls school?
I am not Muslim, but you appear to be an expert in Islam, so could you please explain, what is worse in your religion - that girls and women are dressed so called "immodestly" inside a girls school or that a bunch of males forcibly enter that school and then proceed to beat up them up because they are not dressed "modestly" as per their standard?
You replied to Pakistan First "“girls can wear anything they want” ::: LoL … i hope you will not join Nudists tomorrow and ask the world to walk naked in the malls while your mothers/daughter and sisters shop. And stop fantasizing about that, as no matter how hard you try.. Pakistani girls are not going to walk naked in the streets in your life. " - Obviously Pakistan First meant inside a girls school or in the privacy of their homes. He did not say they would walk naked down the streets. I think if anyone was fantasizing it was those frustrated hooligans who attacked the girls. Pakistani girls may not walk naked down the streets but they would when they bathe in the privacy of their bathrooms. Should your self imposed morality police then enter forcibly and beat them up for being "immodestly dressed"? What is the difference between that and invading the privacy of a girls school?
@jj and all other illiterate barbarians, you are no better than the 60 men who barged into the schools.. if you were then you would have known that HUMANITY is ISLAM!
I believe it's time for Pakistan to stop calling itself a democracy and then having people use it as an example of inferior design. It's only a democracy as much as it has signed its name to the terms and conditions agreements of loan and assistance documents.
WOWWWW ..... that would be the last thing I had ever imagined to happen.
Shameful conduct.
these maulvies are minorities, let's invade their madrassah and throw these people out of pindi
Seeds planted long before by our brotherly countries thru zia and madrassas are now fully grown trees with deep and strong roots of hatred and jayhaalat.
@ Maddy Khan India needs more robots like u
in pakistan. Amen Khuda Hafiz
hairy barbarians barging into schools.. beating up little school girls.. Country wide strikes for the release of a convicted murderer..
(sigh) its a good thing Jinnah died early... At least he did not live long enough to see his dream turn into the nightmare it has become
@Balochistan: You said - "Shame on them, O world please don’t judge them or associate them with the Islam. Down with taliban and terrorists"
The house is burning and some people are worried about make-up
@Maddy Khan: Blockquote
Blockquote> Their request is very innocent ““dress modestly and wear hijabs”. I wonder what is wrong about that as long as we are Muslims.Blockquote
Blockquote
"Requests" are not made by thrashing women and girls with iron rods. And can you explain why this "request" should even be made for women and girls inside a girls school?
Check for another Lal Masjid nearby.
@Maddy Khan: You are a superstar. Finally some sane voice. I completely agree with you.
@PK Christian (Suhail):
I agree. This is usually the case. But we rather take an ostrich like posture and pretend it's not so. If this is the case we might as well surrender now to the mullah
Stephen
Majority of population like in any other country just bow before powerful,irony is extremists due to state sponsorship in the past have now established the myth that they are powerful so majority of population is just silently observing the tide. Unfortunately liberals have always proved themselves as fragmented mob of unwise people, after all who will dare to repeat Lal mosque what so called liberals and civil society did to Pervez Musharraf,they just left him on the mercy of extremist media and lawyers movement. And now it is proved beyond doubt that he was standing between Pakistan and chaos.
A police official of the New Town Police Station, asking for anonymity, told The Express Tribune, “We were under strict instructions to do nothing.”
That says it all.
Now no action will be taken. And ike Lal Masjid, Swat incidents, this situation will keep boiling and will not be dealt with until it will just explode and will ruin normal people's lives. This is outrageous. Unbelieveable.
@Dan: You shameful person, your attempts to malign our national army are disgusting. Nothing is more abhorrent to us then the Roman armies invading our lands and fomenting terrorism in them.
what is more horrifying than the incident is the views of some people here who support it! are you even human?! who left you in charge to decide what is wrong and what is right?! fix yourselves first!
@Maddy Khan: Why don't you first please get your homework done on laws regarding beating of innocent underage, or of the age individuals for that matter, in Islamic Law before stating your extremist views.
I don't think there's any hint of "law" left in the country. No one is safe.
In any other civilized society with proper writ of the law, this kind of a shameful, disgusting incident would been the lead story in all print and electronic media. However, judge for yourself. How many newspapers and channels have given it the due importance?? Heads should have rolled today. The top government officials and agencies must be held accountable for this kind of a gross negligence or for that matter, connivance.
As an exptariat deeply saddened by the spiraling slide, deterioration being experienced by our institutions and the society, I am shocked over the fact that this incident did not take place in the lawless tribal belt, or in Afghanistan but in RAWALPINDI. Another proof how deeply entrenched the radicalisation is in Pakistan. Both the provincial/federal goverments must be held accountable.
Not that much surprising - it is same city where GHQ was attacked - a highly sensitive and guarded area, what to talk of a girls school..
Who gave the right to these rats to impose their version of Islam on others??? Why cant they get one thing in their head ? All Muslims are answerable only to ALLAH SWT, not to these crazy fools who are trying to hijack islamic teachings .
@Maddy Khan and JJ:
Just wondering.... Why don't yoy guys immigrate to Saudi Arabia with your families? There women wear the burqa and the niqab and are only allowed to reveal one eye to see the way. I'm sure you would love it there! And then, when you differ with the Arabs over something, they can stuff their brand of religion down your throats like you're trying to do to us. That would be so lovely wouldn't it? Because the Arabs would welcome you with open arms, and the rest of us true Pakistani would love to get rid of the likes of you. Think about it!
If i dont want to wear Hijab who the hell are you to order me? keep your religion to ur home u gay religious extremists+terrorists..
@Maddy Khan "But same should be done to every other citizen who protest against any injustice including those who protested in Punjab against load shedding."
So you think that a person’s right to wear clothes of his choice is injustice to others.
"You have absolutely no right to take over Islam"
But you have, and with rods
"And stop fantasizing about that, as no matter how hard you try.. Pakistani girls are not going to walk naked in the streets in your life"
Reductio ad absurdum. Now you are comparing school uniform wearing girls with nudism.
"Bombed palestine, Iraq, afghanistan and Pakistan and killed thousands of families including children"
What has goons attacking girls to do with Jews attacking Palestine.
@Maddy Khan: Your name says it all "Maddy" and "Insane"..Do you mean to say Indian Muslims don't have any Islamic Culture..If this barbarism is what you call as "islamic" then i don't any sane person in this world would want that
First of all, I'd just like to say how good it is to read so many comments from Pakistani people who vehemently condemn this action, and are opposed to this attitude of forcing everyone to adopt your version of religion. I applaud you all, from the bottom of my heart. It gives me such hope for the people of Pakistan!
To all those people defending these actions (in particular Maddy Khan and JJ):
Wake up! Today these people feel that those school girls were dressed "immodestly" because they didnt cover their heads, tomorrow the burqa won't even be enough for them and they'll confine women to their homes and eventually treat them as "nahoosat" and start committing female infanticide in the name of Islam saying that a woman's whole existence is impure. Have you bothered to notice the girls' school uniform in Pakistan? Its a long kameez and full shalwar with a dupatta. What's so immodest about this dress code? They aren't roaming around in revealing clothes like shorts or short skirts and nor is the loose shalwar kameez figure-revealing. The main thing about the Islamic dress code for women is that the clothes should not be figure revealing, and should cover them properly. The school uniform conforms to this code. The hijab is a matter of choice. Personally, I have read the Quran more than a 12 times and have never come across a verse that enjoins the hijab. There is an injunction to cover the chest "they should draw their veils over their bosoms " (S. 24:31 Y. Ali), and to lower their gaze, and the cover the "sattar" chest, torso, arms, legs. If one doesn't wear the hijab it isn't immodest and nor is it indecent or "un-Islamic". The verse that talks about a veil refers to the wives of the Prophet (SAW) so that other men wouldn't look at them with impure intentions or an impure gaze. It was directed at the wives of the Prophet (SAW) to single them out from other women so people would know they weren't ordinary ladies, hence it is a matter of choice to dress in a veil. I sincerely hope that one day these people beat you like they beat these young girls so that you may realise what monsters you're siding with, and whom you believe are defending Islam.
@Balochistan: Please then tell us what inspired the mob to do this deed? Were they non-religious secularists?
Why were they wearing masks? Is it shame? Cowardice? Or maybe they've been reading too many Alan Moore comics?
I propose that violence be met with violence. That is the only language they understand. I am ordering my ak-47. I suggest people who are disgusted by these animals do the same ie put them down .
This just a shadow of strategic depth yet to come.
@Balochistan: You said - "Shame on them, O world please don’t judge them or associate them with the Islam. Down with taliban and terrorists"
These sort of incidents are not just in Pakistan but also in so-called moderate Islamic countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. And regular feature in lawless, extreme Islamic countries like Somalia and Afghanistan. And also in pure, law-abiding Islamic countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia.
If it is not Islam then what is it. For a non-muslim like me, it seems like all the dots are connecting real well to lead to root cause for such behaviour.
no such incident happen anywhere , authorities are trying to find the reporter so that such hoax can be controlled in future.
Reminds me of the Saudi muttawa.
To all liberals : Are you ashamed of SHARIA LAWS? The biggest problem in Pakistan is lack of ISLAMIC Laws and Ladeeniat. If the constitution of Pakistan (copy of British constitution) is replaced by Quran , Pakistan would become TRUE islamic country like Saudi Arabia. And see the results - Saudi Arabia is one of the richest muslim countries in the whole world. This is the power of Islam. So throw the garbage of liberalism and adopt true Sharia laws. Secondly, I never said beating girls was correct BUT I said the girls MUST follow ISLAMIC dress code. IT IS COMPULSORY. When Muslim women are fighting for HIJAB and SHARIA in France, why Pakistani women adopting westernization?
This seems a fake news. No one else reported it. My relatives live near satellite town, have NO information of this?
Well there are psychos who don't even offer prayers themselves but want others to strictly follow Islamic Laws. I can bet they were the same people!
another bothersome nuisancy........can we gestate another Lal Masjid is in the making????????
So who was giving these instructions, the Punjab govt.?
An interesting aside for readers supporting this type of 'action': for you folks old enough to do so, check any old photos of your grandmother......I seriously doubt she would be wearing a 'Hijab'. So for the sake of argument, she too dressed 'immodestly', right?
Hypocracy is our life style. If moderate muslims know that local madrasah students have done it and its wrong too, then why don't they close that madrassah or atleast stop funding it. They know whats being taught in these madrassahs and still they keep on supporting these institutions.. The students of madrassah have done nothing wrong, they are brain washed to do these things and who has paid their brain wash expenses, the locals who are protesting now. Shame on them (protestors). Army, police and other law enforcement agencies will not take any action, because their is no monetary, political or International condemnation involved in it. They will wait cancer to grow, so that someone from outside promises to pay expenses and rewards them on their action. Shame on them too.
Shocking beyond words. The people who did that, I wouldn't call them inhuman because that'd even be an insult to those who are inhuman. What's more unbelievable are some of the people commenting here, supporting such actions. To those, please get it through your thick head: 1. Everyone is free to practice their religion, beliefs & culture in Pakistan. If you cannot tolerate that, it's your problem, not ours, so it's you who should leave. 2. The kind of Islam you are trying to preach, is not Islam, so stop intruding in our religion. 3. We've had enough of people like you destroying the good name of Pakistan & Islam. If you don't have the tolerance that Islam preaches, please pack your bags & leave... go anywhere, try applying for a visit visa to Afghanistan & then disappear. Pakistan is not your country, we don't want you here so leave!
these madrassas should be banned, they dont teach anything worthwhile anyway.
@Wahas Ahmed: Remember Abbottabad? lol.
The Return of the Lal Masjid II. Musharraf badly needed before its too late.
@JJ: the commoners donot posses this right to take islam in their hands its the duty of muslim government to do so.i myself cover up from head to toe but i know very well what my religion commands its people.
this conversation has gotten downright sickening. apparently everybody believes THEIR version of Islam is the true one. Gimme a break. go out there and work, educate yourselves and rid yourselves of the frustration inside you.
@JJ:
Does it define anywhere in the constitution of this "Islamic Republic" what men and women must and must not wear? Answer: No
Does it say anywhere in the constitution of this country, or in the Shariah, that people are allowed to beat others up if others are dressed immodestly (or for any other reason)? Answer: No
Does a girls' school sound like a place where girls need to wear hijab to hide themselves from men? Answer: No
Does it say in the Qur'an that you must abide by the LAWS of the COUNTRY that you are living in? Answer: Yes
Do you now understand that these girls committed no crime; however, those who beat them up can be criminally charged for trespassing, assault and battery, both under Pakistani AND Islamic law?
I suggest you actually do some reading on Islamic law. You will be surprised to read that, in actual fact, nobody is allowed to beat anybody up for dressing immodestly. In Islamic law, men and women are told to LOWER/AVERT THEIR GAZE, whether they are looking at someone dressed modestly or immodestly - and no further "punishment" or prosecution is prescribed beyond that.
GET EDUCATED IN ISLAM, O PASSIONATE ISLAMISTS.
What?? Police has been told to do nothing?? Just can't believe this :(
@Raj: I appreciate your efforts for offending people here by getting personal on a social issue specially with the level of frustration you carry everywhere but you better work hard enough as I don’t give a second thought to such emotionally driven views by people like you. This is a social issue and let’s not start an argument which makes everyone start undressing each other for no reason.
“And marry an educated girl” :::: LoL… whatever your tried to pretend here .. you do sound funny for sure!! =)
The fact that these guys were masked demonstates more than anything else the cowardice of their actions And for those people who have said that this is a good thing, remember you don't get brownie points in the next life if you scare, hurt or murder innocent people in this one. In simple terms, these are bad things - and you all should know what happens in the next life to those who do bad things.
as long as we have corrupt governments and the elites looting the country, screaming against extremism wont do much... poverty, ignorance, extreme inequalities, injustices and bad governance have set new records.. what do you expect my dear affluent liberals?
To the weak, immoral cowards on this forum who are trying to justify the criminal acts of these thugs - Go educate yourselves about Islam before you start braying to others, you bring shame upon yourselves and Islam by having the audacity to claim criminals and thugs are champions of Islam. The Quran tells us repeatedly to differentiate right from wrong, to do justice, to be charitable, to exercise self control, to use our God-given brain, in addition to the relatively ''easy'' farz of salat. Being a good Muslim does not mean you should grow a beard/wear a hijab and then proceed to behave like violent thugs. What jahalat. Establishing regular prayer is only the beginning - humility, the courage to stand up for right, to be fair in business and personal dealings, to regularly give Zakat, to exercise self control are all required of Muslims. When you have achieved all this, feel free to offer your wisdom to others. For now, go fix yourselves before trying to poison other people's views of Islam with your ignorant and hypocritical ranting.
Who among you who are outraged will go into the streets and protest? If you don't take your country and religion back from these maniacs, your condemn your children to a horrific future.
welcome to Talibanised Land of the Pure!!
See, I knew that most of you will start acting like ultra moderate Muslims. I condemn the way these masked men tried to implement Islamic dressing modesty in their own way and they should be treated well by the govt agencies for violating the state rules and taking the matter in their own hand. But same should be done to every other citizen who protest against any injustice including those who protested in Punjab against load shedding to those who protested against Zulfiqar Mirza statements.
@Pakistani First: Don’t act smart by telling me that it’s not 7th century, every kid on the street knows that and no one is impressed here by this much knowledge of yours. And I am not living in a cave for your kind information, it’s actually you who is living in a air conditioned cave with a internet connection to trust google more than what is written in Quran or whatever your dad tells you.
"We have given ourselves the bastion of being Islam’s saviors"::: i feel very sorry if you feel ashamed on this.
"Let me assure you Islam doesn’t need any saving from people like you or those miscreants." :: You have absolutely no right to take over Islam and assure me anything for it and give fatwas like a neighborhood molvi.
"girls can wear anything they want" ::: LoL ... i hope you will not join Nudists tomorrow and ask the world to walk naked in the malls while your mothers/daughter and sisters shop. And stop fantasizing about that, as no matter how hard you try.. Pakistani girls are not going to walk naked in the streets in your life. Brother, there should be a limit and modesty to everything, kindly understand. Even your ideals for freedom of everything also condemn it (google it baby). =P
"What kind of Islam is this where they are using rods to threaten and coerce" :::: I have already condemned this part as it is not fair in any part of the world.. but yes.. I do wish that you raise same voice against forces who carpet bombed palestine, Iraq, afghanistan and Pakistan and killed thousands of families including children and women. And do let me know when you do that as i want to see how explicitly you do that, but only if you feel comfortable or it is perfectly all rite with me otherwise.
May God bless all!!
I now completely understand pakistan military and ISI why they dare not take on Taliban but ready to take on America ..Because America is like a lion to them if you dont go near it ,it will not attack you or at the best roar from far off jungle and you can live with it. But Taliban is a cancer in own body if aggravated it will spread all over the body and death is the result. Taliban mindset is in every city every village and in every street .So it takes long long time to weed out or heal and thats why military is just asking US,Aghanistan and India too not to provoke taliban and give them their share so that this cancer is not aggravated..I understand this view .. Second view ,pakistani people dont feel desperate as if some animals are there in your country --To soothe you ,let me tell you that RSS (with stick wielding and not gun as your case) is capable of barging into convent schools and beating teachers,nuns but Indian people(mostly hindus) and government keeps them in check and thats the level of control pakistan should aim for !! .
Educationists say that you can change the destiny of an entire generation and of those who would come after that if you educate women. The education of a women acts like a multiplier which tends to change the very fabric of a society in favor of moderation, progress and social emancipation. Taliban and their reactionary political patrons are well aware of this fact and this is the reason why they are so resistant to women education.
@Pakistani First: dude its just because people like these who tout Islam the most have neither bothered reading Quran or hadith or history or done any kind of thinking or personal introspection AT ALL. All they know of is how to twist religion to suit their own chauvinistic, idiotic personal agendas!
@A Muslim:
How can you expect those who can't agree on a single day of Eid to impose Shariah in Pakistan? Anyone who wants to live his life under Shariah should rather go to Waziristan, Somalia, Saudi Arabi or Iran. Please leave alone Pakistan, we don't need your Shariah.
Where is our "Pak Army" which eats away 50% of our budget? Don't they feel it their duty to fight for the country against her internal enemies who are operating right under the nose of GHQ? NO. They are too busy in allocating plots to officers in different projects of DHA. Please don't disturb them; they are engaged in defending the "ideological and territorial borders of DHA".
Only a JJ can condone and defend such barbaric act. JJ ie Jinsy Junoony
Taliban are now the de facto rulers of Pakistan. They can now kidnap anyone, no matter how powerful he may be, from anywhere in Pakistan at will. Just look at the high profile kidnapping cases of Aamir Malik, Dr Ajmal Khan (vice chancellor of Peshawar University) and now Shabaz Taseer. Our Army is busy feeling "threat" from India on the outside borders and our country is caving in from inside. Soon the Army may have no country to defend from outside. May be, our Army would cut a deal with Taliban accepting them as the new rulers of Pakistan.
There are different interpretations of religion. Even scientists don’t agree over a sole explanation of a physical phenomenon. Religion cannot be explained through pure logic, therefore there cannot be consensus over true Islam. So what we need is tolerance. Accept each other and let people do what they believe in. You hate me because of the ideas you gained from your environment, my ideas are derived from the environment I live in. We both can’t be held liable for our beliefs. So it all depends on the external sources of ideas. If my dad had been a religious scholar instead of a University professor, I would have held different beliefs.
Taliban are not only hiding in the caves of Waziristan and Swat, they are right among us in our cities who preach hatred, raise money from internal and external sources (I mean Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries) and impose their version of Islam on all of us. A significant section of our media and political parties are openly hands-in-glove with the shaggy barbarians. We are reaping what we sowed long ago. When politics is mixed with religion, it makes a powerful bomb.
Where is CJ of LHC and more surprisingly CJ of SC?????? Oh I see, they are too afraid to take up these types of cases. Thanks God, our province of Sindh is safe from these so called salvation army.
So when did those men say it was about Islam , The Koran and the Religion? This is probably some drama to close down the school...maybe someone from a rival group in the vicinity.
but if you put 2 and 2 together..it just doesnt seem right. its a VERY difficult thing for 70 men armed with iron rods to travel together.
As if the title wasn't shocking enough, the contents have left me even more baffled: the police was under 'strict instructions to do nothing'. How is the general public supposed to feel safe, not that we do already, when the police may be under instructions to 'do nothing'? Sad.
In this very set of comments, out of 12 respondents, 2 are of the opinion that what was done was partially necessary and that "Shariah" law, or their limited interpretation of it, should be imposed in this way. This is 2 out of 12 seemingly educated people judging from the level of grammar and vocabulary employed. That leaves more than half the population of Pakistan that is not well educated; a fair number of whom have not even finished primary school. In this group, it is reasonable to imagine that the number of respondents similar to the 2 pro-what-happened above will be greater if it's assumed that education plays an important role in reducing levels of religious "fundamentalism" or "Classical" religious views. Therefore, all such manifestations of "imposing" Islamic values is not just the gifts of a small, minority group of fundamentalists. It is supported in varying degrees by a large part of the population. This is disturbing. More importantly, it makes the problem bigger and more difficult. Before any solutions or ways forward are arrived at, the reality of this limited interpretation of Sharia and its effects on the mentality of a large part of the population of Pakistan have to be accepted.
The "impose-classical-Islamic-values" agenda is not restricted to a meager minority. A large part of our population, perhaps more than 50% even, practice it every day in a myriad of different ways. At the very least, even if they don't practice it, they support it.
i am sure the gang did not have miscreants but parents of girls !!!
When parents advise girls to dress modestly, these girls always fight..... but now, they will listen to the voice of the gang....advice is right...method is wrong....
I wonder how connected this incident is to a massive Sipah-e-Sahaba rally being held at the same time in Islamabad!
http://www.siasat.pk/forum/showthread.php?83150-Estehkam-e-Pakistan-Or-Shoda-e-Islam-Conference-in-Isb
When strategic assets backfire.
Highly confused society. Very high wishes and desires, but totally ignorant how to achieve the goals. To have SHARIA LAW ( a good wish ) by THRASHING WITH RODS ( ignorant way to achieve goals )...
Sounds like doings of the Napak ARMY, who else can it be!!!!
Does it say in the Qur'an to beat the living daylights out of another human being if the allegedly do something un-Islamic? Why can't they use words of reason rather than violence? Islam is a peaceful religion, sadly the religious fanatics & fundamentalists interpret the word of God to achieve their own perverse goals. People who try to rule with violence & fear should fear God. On the day of judgement their deeds will be revealed in their hands....they can't re-interpret that part of the Qur-an can they? Just saying x
Since when did Islam allow beating women and children? no matter what religion they follow, they were never harmed like THIS at the advent of Islam.
My question to these people is this, how come whenever someone wants to enforce Islamic laws, it's always in the domain of women's clothing or family planning? How come this armed group never went against all the corruption in the country? how come these "Vigilantes" do not fight crime? The picked girls and children and beat them up and that is how Islamic Laws are enforced by these people.
Mind you, clothing of an individual is not an Islamic State Law! Under no circumstances is one allowed to enforce "Proper clothing" on someone. If someone actually supports this action, no wonder we have extremism.
And for the love of God! Everyone, please stop being authority on religion when clearly you are not! There are several sects in Islam, each interpretting things in a different way. First try to be a model Muslim yourself! Then expect others to follow you! You have no right to "Enforce" anything on anyone!
Why not grab people in the streets and make them offer prayers as well? It's in Islam. Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance! Not of dictators!
At those 'islamic' friends of mine here who are trying their best to condone and defend this act, and talking about Nizam-e-Mustafa and 'Islamic Vaues', can u please do your homework and let me know what article or section of Shariah, or event in the days of the prophet or ayat of Quran justifies this act, the way it was done? Do you really think you are the model muslim? The very line that we today fail to realize and love debating is whether there is 'Jabar' in islam or not. My faith says there is No Jabar permissible in Islam. For those of you who think there is, well you sure deserve to be taken out of your houses and beaten every time you don't offer prayers in Jamaat! This cancer has spread out of control and hate me for saying this but the way things are going, maybe we would start praying for an Ata Turk to come and rid this menace for us!
Wasalam
how in the world was it "Islamic" of these barbarians to beat people up?
all of you talking about how they were trying to enforce "Shariah" in your comments, do you even know what Shariah is? SERIOUSLY?
and since when are we the judge of something that's between man and Allah? can you quote me from the Quran or the Sunnah what "Islamic punishment" is prescribed for "not dressing moderately"?
Stop ridiculing Islam already!
ermm... weren't they wearing school uniform?
This is more than it appears to be.
This is a fringe of the Qadri issue and the Mullahs brigade want to get their "activists" geared up and ready to go out and terrorise anyone who disagrees with them on their "opinion" of Islam.
They are Liars, Cheats and Innovators.
^ so you're okay with random men coming barging into a girls school like theyre some morality police and almost killing little girls and women if they choose not to cover their heads? you, sir, are a barbarian, and people like you should seize to exist.
^ I I I
Need to build a time machine and put you two in it.
Such is the extremism of our society that many believe that a person can’t even dress according to his own will. If this is sharia, then I don’t want any.
@Maddy Khan, JJ
There is nowhere in Quran that women wear hijab. The uniform of a girl’s school is sufficiently modest. Don’t impose your believes on others. Taliban and sectarian killers also present the same logic that you’re giving.
@JJ: Please JJ, firstly GET A LIFE.
No country and no group of miscreants has the RIGHT to tell people how to dress, and then thrash them for it. Religion is a personal matter between individuals and God - why is that so difficult to understand? And doesn't the Quran say itself, "Let there be no compulsion about religion"?
So please before speaking about how this is the right way, check your facts. We're in the 21st century and this kind of barbaric behaviour should be strongly condemned. How about if a group of men came and thrashed you for not having your beard upto 2 feet or whatever in length, and wearing a shirt which reveals your body hair, and jeans that are way too tight?
How come that story never comes into light huh? Maybe because the way Pakistani society perceives it, religion is only aimed at women who are meant to cover themselves while men can just have whatever they want.
@JJ: @Maddy Khan: Religion is something which is fine to have and to practice, but PLEASE don't shove it down the throats of others. Or are you so insecure in your faith that unless there is a totalitarian and dictatorial theocracy you are unable to practice your faith freely? If you want to dress up your female family members forcefully from 'head to toe' as you say, please feel free to do so, but DO NOT expect others to do the same.
How do you know that these are true Muslims? If these guys are so great believer let them come up without masks and then fight face to face ? If their god taught them to beat innocent girls in the name of modesty, then surely they are praying some different god or a demon. If they insist that they pray the same Prophet, then that means that they are trying to malign the Prophet. In that case it is clear blasphemy and as per law of the land hang them in a public gathering so that nobody else tries such blasphemous act again.
@JJ and Maddy Khan - I am amazed by your naivety. I feel I need to get personal here. The problem is that your parents did not get proper education as a result you have turned into such animals.[ Education here not just mean ability to read and write English or an engineering degree but to understand and respect individual rights and beliefs] Had you mother been educated she would have given you enough thrashing on the very first signs of your bigotry. Now since it did not happen it's unfortunate for you, but keep you thoughts with yourself. And marry an educated girl so that your children don't undergo the same suffering as you.
@ JJ Bravo ....... may more people think like u . Amen
The future of this country: Unity, Faith, Discipline has been replaced by Fear, Tyranny, Fanaticism.
Are we Muslims indeed? Are we? We should all be asking this question to ourselves. Why? When there were just a few hundred Muslims in the world, they had no trouble, whatsoever, in coming together to establish an Islamic State. Today we are in millions, yet not ONE Islamic State? Why? Those who bothered to create an Islamic State were true Muslims and we? We are IMPOSTERS, decidedly. Imposters, just because our deeds prove it. Those who came together to make the Laws of Allah, Laws of their land, whatever land they had, knew very well that the resoponsibility to create an Islamic state is theirs collectively, so they all worked for it. Today none of us knows this most vital reason of not having an Islamic State. We all want an Islamic State. Do we not? But how many of us are doing anything to achieve it. We all want JUSTICE. Do we not? But how many of us practice JUSTICE? The habit of practice of justice determines in total black and white, whether a person is a Muslim or not a Muslim. Islam never spread by coercion, extortion, violence or anything ugly like that. Islam spread because those new Muslims set up good examples through their exemplary behaviuor of winning the hearts and minds of non Muslims. Those Arabs or new Muslims changed their bad habits for the good. We all also need to change our bad habits for the good if we ever want to become Muslims. True Muslims, like them. We all need to follow in the footsteps of those true Muslims who took the responsibility of creating an Islamic State through their own collective efforts. A responsibility we vow to take when we recite the Kalimah of allegience to Allah. Did those Arabs and new Muslims ever leave it for a political party or any person to give them an Islamic State? Did they? So why do we? Can we not see the result of what they achieved ? We shall never achieve anything if we all will not be prepared to come out to join hands to work for it and maintain it as they did.
“We were under strict instructions to do nothing.” These are the words that shall be carved onto this nation's epitaph.
It's a sad day for Pakistan when the comments on such shocking articles are more shocking that the news itself.
This is bull, they dont have authority to do that. In future, any group of ......... can mask themselves and impose their brand of religion. Only state has the power to do that (by doing I dont mean beating them, rather giving them choice). If state is not doing it then we should strive for creating state who can do it not to take matters in our own hand.
Remember Lala Masjid squad chasing the chinese in Islamabad... ?
Strings are attached.
It is troubling that there are people that apparently support the actons of these lunatics. Islam makes room for those who wish to wear the hijab and those who don't. The responsibility is upon a man to lower his gaze when in the presence of a woman, regardless of what she is wearing. By what yardstick do you religious nuts think it is acceptable to beat anyone?
I suppose it's too much to ask you nutcases to practice your faith without infringing on the rights of others?
JJ.......you are an ILLITERATE and stupid persion. Under Islam, you CAN NOT establish a state within a state....do you UNDERSTAND????...these leads to ANARCHY which is strictly FORBIDDEN in Islam...moreover, only the MAHRAM of the women (hunsband, brother, son etc) can make a women dress modeslty. No other perosn roaming on the street has the right to force any women to cover up. But ofcourse you dont know these things since you have not bothered to read the Islamic literature, you just act as if you are the champion of Islam.
So kindly.....SHUT YOUR MOUTH
......and still we do nothing about the madrases and their sponsors.
Its a simple request please dress modestly, because there is a limit drawn between islamic and western culture. So government should do something to enforce the proper islamic dress code for girls. I dont see any thing wrong with this request and inshAllah government will take proper measures to act upon this.
@Maddy Khan: This is not the 7th Century my friend. Come out of your cave and see where the world is headed. The reason we are miles behind the rest of the world is that we are the sole country that has religion on its sleeve. We have given ourselves the bastion of being Islam's saviors. Let me assure you Islam doesn't need any saving from people like you or those miscreants. The girls can wear anything they want its you who needs to strengthen his faith. What kind of Islam is this where they are using rods to threaten and coerce. No sir I do not follow the kind of Islam you and these terrorists preach.
JJ, our democratically elected representatives called this country an Islamic Republic because we and they mistakenly thought that if we give a loud minority a demand they have for changing the name of this country, they would be satisfied, and in the spirit of political give and take, that loud minority would be satisfied with the change and calm down. Instead, that minority remained unsatisfied, they remained angry with their own surroundings and how they did not match their own, sterilised life, and they demanded more and more restrictions. This country has bent enough to your demands, how about you change yourself, and let people live they want to, and leave them alone.
Seriously, how about threatening the ownership of the Madrassah with nationalisation if their students engage in vigilantism http://t.co/Fl67wF4J
@JJ:
your mentality!
RESULT OF EXTREME RELIGIONISM, RADICAL THINKING, SHORT MINDSET, LACK OF COMMONSENSE, HATRED, BRAINWASH, ........... 1000 times more severe than 17th centurie's Europe
But it was wrong for the girls to wear UNISLAMIC dress in ISLAMIC republic. The girls must be covered from head to toe and there must be segregation of sexes. And if the government is not enforcing strict SHARIA laws then true muslims have to take law(ISLAMIC LAW) in their own hands and establish NIZAM-e-MUSTAFA. So whats the problem here?
I condem thrashing and steel rods stuff but if Govt of an Islamic state do nothing to impose Islamic laws (debateable, yes), the people will definetly take the matter in their own hands. We need to define a line between western and islamic culture (not indian culture) before it is too late. Their request is very innocent "“dress modestly and wear hijabs”. I wonder what is wrong about that as long as we are Muslims. This is implemented all over the world in different forms. Even the westerns have their own dress modesty and rules to ensure the same.
And a kind request to those who wish to blast me with their "moderate" views, please get your homework done on dressing laws in Islam before saying anything.
This was in Rawalpindi. Which powerful group within the government were these psychopaths who attacked a girls school connected with?
And if they can enter a girls school and beat students, can't they also kill people? This is way, way too fishy to be just a random group of madrassah students, especially in Rawalpindi. This reminds me of the Lal Masjid situation, where vigilantism was allowed to persist by the Musharraf government.
60 to 70 miscreants able to enter the school and thrash small children with rods and not even one arrested so far. On the contrary the police official declares 'We are under strict instructions to do nothing' is simply disgusting and indicates state's total helplessness against the radical elements in Pakistan which would give rise to more lawlessness in the country.
They aren't 'miscreants'. They are local maddrassa students. Everyone in the locality knows about it!
What kind of barbarians beat school girls with Iron rods ? and the Police is told to stand-by and watch?
"We were under strict instructions to do nothing" ?!?!?!?! What the fish? If we don't send a strong message to such miscreants, extremism will eat Pakistan alive! The police never was and never will be someone we cant count upon to protect the citizens and maintain law and order. Such a pity. I guess people should take matters into their own hands now and become vigilantes.
may be, army wants to win public support against millitants to lay ground for an operation in Waziristan.
In Rawalpindi city, the place where Army HQ is situated. I am shocked.
