Jewellery designer Sara Taseer Shoaib is behind the actor joining the website. She told The Express Tribune in an e-mail interview, “While doing a jewellery shoot with Meera she expressed her frustration at the way the media manipulates her statements. She asked me if there was a way she could be direct with the public. At this point I explained the power and potential of Twitter to her.”
Meera’s first message was to Shoaib, while the other was “Hi Pakistan, I’m so excited to be here”.
Shoaib says that Meera “is very excited and keen to get on Twitter but is hesitant about the technological aspect. Some IT people in my office are assisting her with setting up her account and will be taking her through the correct use of the site. I hope to be able to put it on her phone. All this may take some time as we have to schedule mutually convenient timings.”
Meera’s basic reason for joining the website is to counter the negative publicity she has received and the way her statements have been skewed. According to Shoaib, “Meera wants to be heard and get her point of view across without a third party filter. She feels the media has not been fair to her, and is frustrated that her point of view has not been clearly delivered to the public.”
